“And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.”
Memory verse: “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” II Corinthians 12:9
Many times people assume that Christianity means having putting up appearance with no room for mistakes and at such it becomes more like a task rather than a way of life. We forget to take it easy on ourselves forgetting that God who created us knows our frame, ability and capabilities until something drastic happens and without knowing it, we begin to sink and if care is not taken, that becomes the beginning of drowning. This is not an avenue to take our Godly fellowship and relationship with levity, it’s to encourage us during the stormy days and well we fall by that we can rise again and not condemn ourselves totally.
Because we are human, it’s important to understand that we will sink from time to time because we will have our moment when we will go out of line. Jesus tells us “ that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.” Matthew 5:22
Peter may have drowned or maybe not drowned because Jesus would not let Him but there are times where if we don’t call unto the Lord for help when sinking, we put ourselves at risk of drowning. Peter was one of the disciples who spent most of his time with Jesus and physically saw all the miracles Jesus performed but life still gave him a scare, so when he saw the storm, he cried out “Lord, save me!”
This is not to say that because we can cry for help always, we then take his mercy for granted Romans 6:1 but it’s important to know that we can always run for help when we personally realise we are sinking. We don’t have to act or cover up our mistakes because we’re trying to keep up appearances of what the world may think. The world is irrelevant when it comes to the journey to make heaven because the race is an individual one so whatever it takes not to drown is important.
Are you sinking? Only you will be able to know that for sure, crying for help will save you from drowning and Jesus is always there to hold your hands like he did with peter.
PRAYERS
- Father I thank you for another blessed day in your presence
- I am grateful for your protection, provision and for all that you do for me.
- Help me Lord to reach out to you when I am sinking, help me to stand firm and strong against the winds and storms of life capable of drowning me
- Help me to seek you where and when I can find you, Help me to reach out to you always Lord
- Guide me Lord, help me to remain in your presence and hold on to that which is important to you
- Help me to not lean on my own understanding, surrender all to you and leave things at your feet.
- Bring me back into the heart of worship, let all I do be all about you.
- Forgive me Lord of all my iniquities, bless me abundantly and make me a blessing unto others, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
