Are you empowered for your next appointment?

Choose some well-respected men from each tribe who are known for their wisdom and understanding, and I will appoint them as your leaders. Then you responded, ‘Your plan is a good one.’ So I took the wise and respected men you had selected from your tribes and appointed them to serve as judges and officials over you. Some were responsible for a thousand people, some for a hundred, some for fifty, and some for ten.

Memory Verse: Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; Ecclesiastes 9:10.

Few days ago during my bible study, the introduction of David to King Saul felt like a freshly added bible verse to me, it suddenly felt new. I meditated on the passage for so long brooding on who David was before being anointed by prophet Samuel as the Lord’s chosen one to rule over His people after King Saul.

David was just a shepherd boy, but a distinct feature was that he was well empowered, 1 Samuel 16 :18 tells us when Saul’s savant was to introduce David , He done it in stages clearly outlining his qualities. The servant presented David saying he is
 1. One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player.
2. Not only that he is a brave warrior
3. A man of war
4. and has good judgment.
5. He is also a fine-looking young man,
6 .and the Lord is with him.

David was an empowered child of God who had various skillset which was actively utilised in various aspects of life. His talents may not have been publicly declared to the world and neither did he have any publicity at the time, but he clearly was daily empowering himself and getting equipped for what the unknown future holds. This got me really thinking, how prepared am I for an unexpected appointment in life?

Sometimes people have a long waiting period in life and while some are very good at getting busy with life tasks, another person might tell you “I am waiting on the Lord”. Waiting on the Lord does not mean lack of empowerment. We see the life of David as a boy, when prophet Samuel travelled to the house of Jesse to anoint a king as instructed by the Lord, David was attending to his father’s sheep, he was away busy and being responsible 1Samuel 16.11 and while at it, an important appointment came unexpectedly.

Some of the most important appointments in life could come without the opportunity to learn on the job. Most employers are always recruiting those with work experience with very few are ready to appoint inexperienced job seekers and we see this apply in the bible as well.

In today’s bible verse, Moses gives an account of how he appointed leaders to support with the children of Israel and Moses did not choose just anybody. He chose men who are known for their wisdom and understanding. In other words, they were ready for the master’s use.

The world out there is competitive, Gods mercy and favor can secure you an appointment but you will need to be empowered to retain the appointment. Whiles you and I may not know the exact route to the destination, lets continue polishing up our skills for when the sudden opportunity opens up. We see the men appointed by Moses, some were appointed to manage a team a thousand people, some for a hundred, some for fifty, and some for ten

Waiting on the lord does not mean being idle. Praying and fasting will open doors for opportunities you have positioned yourself for so I urge you to truly self -asses yourself on what you are doing while waiting on the Lord. I urge you to continue equipping yourself so that you can be found worthy of managing a team of a thousand people; after all we trust God enough to know that even when we cannot see the physical manifestation yet, He is still working everything out for our own good Romans 8:28.

The Lord is with you and I just like He was with David so let’s begin the journey to self -empowerment and await the next big thing in God’s plan for our lives.
