If you go without the Lord!

Deuteronomy 1:42 “But the Lord told me to tell you, ‘Do not attack, for I am not with you. If you go ahead on your own, you will be crushed by your enemies.” Read Deuteronomy 1:26-46

Memory Verse: “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Why bother? Yes, why do we even attempt things in the first place without knowing if God is interested or not? Today’s topic is one worth reflecting on as children of God because we are often caught in the trap of attempting to progress with many things in life expecting God to play catch up.

We decide on a thing in our mind, make plans without speaking to God about it and sometimes we even execute those plans completely; then if those things turn out wrong we begin to hand them over to God expecting Him to do a quick fix. In essence as God’s children, we do things on the reverse of how they should really have been done and expect the same output; it shouldn’t be so.

God is merciful in all His ways and because of the abundance of His love, we enjoy the benefits of some things automatically. Just like the privilege of waking up every day and many more other benefits He loads us daily with even when we haven’t made a special request for them or done anything measurable to qualify for them. God has created us with the freedom to make choices at will and He doesn’t automatically intrude in our lives so therefore He comes in when we ask for His help.

Matthew 7:7 encourages us to ask from our Father who will generously give to us whatever we ask within His will so why then do we go ahead with most things independently?

The life of king David has always been an interesting one which I like to refer to from time to time because in him was a man whose heart was clearly in the right place with God. The book of Psalms records most of David’s state of heart and if you meditate on psalms long enough, you will begin to see that David was successful at most things He did in life because He involved the Lord in His plans and decisions.

Today’s bible verse states the warning of the Lord to the Children of Israel. They had sinned against the Lord because despite His previous faithfulness in their lives they still could not trust Him completely with their future. They intended to do a quick fix but it was not successful because they went ahead of the Lord.

Most times I see a lot of us Christians behave exactly like the Israelites, we rebel against God, do things without His approval then come back to try fix things ourselves thereby creating even more mess.

Unlike the people of Israel when David realised He had messed up with Bathsheba and Uriah, He refused to do anything else but seek the face of the Lord after his mistake, 2Samuel 12: 13-23.

Not involving God always in your plan most times results to a mistake and trying to fix that mistake anywhere along the line without His input will only lead to disaster.

So I encourage you to speak to the Lord before you begin to plan. Who knows, He might even give you a better plan than you originally intended or prepare your mind ahead of the challenges ahead. Don’t get caught in the middle like the Israelites, commit your every move to the Lord and He will lead you in the right path. The success rate of your plan is 100% if the Lord is involved.

Hand over your plans to the Lord and let him give you a better idea.
