Supporting The Spirit With The Flesh!

“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”

Memory Verse: “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

Take a deep breath and just for a few minutes examine the world around you today, what do you see happening more than ever before? Things have gone so wrong in most parts of the world to the point country leaders themselves are confused on how to savage situations arising, world leaders now seem to be like captains with no control over their ship. Things continue to go wrong by the day and more than ever before and the devil is happily exploiting the advantage as much as he can, achieving success in every way possible and every trap he sets, all because most of us have lost the plot.

The life of most of us begin like that of Solomon as we diligently look unto the Lord, we give our lives to Christ and continued to abide in His ways but soon enough, we get carried away with the pleasures of the world and switch allegiance. What’s more painful is that we don’t realise the change in direction early enough that we continue as normal until all is fully damaged and there is simply no turning back.

Moses & Joshua had 2 different assignments. Moses led the Israelites towards the promised land while Joshua took them into the land; everybody has their own assignments as allocated by God.  In today’s world, most people would want to take on both Moses and Joshua’s assignments through every possible means because for a minute they have forgotten that God is in control not them. These type of thinking leads to desperate measures and people missing the way. Hence we see a lot of people hungry for power, wanting to be who they are not, doing all to feel or be among, desperation for fame, going all out no matter the means or sacrifice needed and more.

The problem grows to the point that even when we notice a damage, instead of going back to God, we become desperate to remain relevant and as such, we begin to seek alternatives, looking into anything and everything, just to keep us at the spot light. We begin to support the spiritual things with the things of the world allowing them to take the place of God in our lives and we continue to live in denial saying things like “it’s all for the glory of God”, “If God was not in support he will not have permitted it” and what not.

If God is truly backing us up, will He not honour His word? Why then are we trying at all cost? God is not man and no amount of things do in the flesh can bring glory to his name. Hence it is important that before we venture into things, we need to fully examine why we are doing it and if it will give genuine glory to God. We allow God to lead the way, while we follow. We allow his will not force ours through.

There are times where distraction kicks in and as human we may begin to get carried away but again let’s keep examining our intentions, is this still for the glory of God or am I now the center of attention? Once we realise we are becoming the center of attention, taking the glory, we can still go back to God and he will mend any damages.

We cannot support spiritual things with the flesh and we don’t need to take shortcuts to stay relevant and say we’re doing it for God. God only needs us to stay connected to Him and if He wants to use us as an instrument for His glory then He will.
