God Is Still Speaking!

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honour at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.

Memory Verse: John 10:27, My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

A little while ago, I had a very powerful conversation with my Dad about how God speaks to us and it was quite refreshing and reassuring when He re-enacted his believe that God still speaks. He said this because God spoke to Him recently and He was sure it was God’s voice He heard. Just like my dad, I find out a lot of people, even Christians, think they have never heard God speaking, but what I find out is usually they don’t recognise God’s voice. God speaks in diverse ways and uses every possible medium to reach out to His sheep.

From the onset, God spoke directly to Adam in Genesis 3:19 and we see how this continued with Abraham In Genesis 12:1 when the Lord gave him an instruction and made a covenant with him. What I find more interesting is in verse 7, where the Lord appeared to Abram, also in Genesis 18:1. In the case of Abimelech, God appeared to Him in a dream to warm him about Sarah, Genesis 20:3 and for Moses, God spoke to Him from the middle of a burning bush Exodus 3:4-6. All these are different people, different places, and different mediums in which God has spoken to people of old.

Apart from God speaking to different people in different ways, there were people God revealed Himself to. His ways and modes of communicating with us are endless and what this means is, we can still hear from Him if we stay attentive. Are you and I attentive or expectant to hear from Him?

Apostle Paul summarises in Hebrews 1, God’s way of communicating with man in the past. When Jesus was present on earth, God spoke directly through Him, and while His assignment was done on earth in flesh, before He ascended to Heaven to be with the father, He promised and sent us the holy spirit John 14:17 so that our communication line with the heavenlies can remain open. There is however one thing is constant in both the times of old and now; that is the fact that God is still speaking, He spoke yesterday, He spoke today and is still speaking, He will speak tomorrow assuredly.

Because of our uniqueness, God does speak to everyone in different ways just like He did in the time of old. God does not have to speak to us the way He spoke in the time of old, He know how to relate with each and every unique being. He understands us and chooses the best approach He knows will connect to us. He chooses how he decides to speak specially, but he has made a permanent communication line open by speaking to us through his Son and through the Holy Spirit. The Bible according to Hebrew 4:12a says “For the word of God is alive and powerful”. The bible is not an history material, it is a living material, a guide which contains what God is saying to us right this minute.

If you are still wondering if God will speak to you, Acts 2:17 reassures you about what God says that ‘In the last days ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.

The more time you spend with God, the more you hear and recognize his voice John 10:27. Are we listening to God when He speaks? God is still speaking. It might be through a still small voice, it can be through an action, it can be audible, it can be through a message, it can be through any means. Just be prepared to hear and when He speaks, you will hear him loud and clear and you will know it is God speaking.
