“Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”
Memory verse: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24
Have you ever observed the world and the relationships we keep? There are various ways in which relationships go but on a happy path we see someone who loves us habitually transfers the love to our families. Our family may not have earned it but they enjoy the grace and inherit the privileges we have access to and vice versa. We see some relationships where people say they don’t love you but love your kids and more others like that which could raise some eye brows.
The bible speaks about the love of God through the acceptance of Christ and obedience of His word yet because of our desire of play safe we then say we love God but do everything contrary to His word because we aim to keep a relationship with the world. In such manner, we think we have a win-win situation but in reality we on a path to losing it all.
Every child of God has a number one enemy which is the devil. The devil however is a friend to the rest of the world, more or less rules the world and the moment we start aiming to please the world then we have automatically switched sides. James refers to people involved in side switching as “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. “James 4:4.
There is no way the world, the devil or anyone on his side can love the children of God. The devil and world can do everything to entice God’s sheep but because the devil is an enemy of God we have become his enemy too via inheritance of the devil’s hate. The moment we let ourselves go, assuming we can partially get involved, then we put ourselves in a position to fall, more or less position ourselves for destruction.
The devils mission has not changed, it’s always been one mission so don’t be deceived “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10.
It’s impossible to be on both sides. So if you assess yourself properly today, whose side are you on?

- Father I thank you for your goodness and unmerited favour
- Thank you for your love and kindness, for the beginning of a new week and season
- I am grateful for your protection, provision and for all that you do for me.
- I am thine O Lord, let me continually be in your camp, not to please the world but to please you Lord.
- I surrender all to you, I withhold nothing, I give myself away and I rededicate my all to you
- Help me to walk with you daily, live my life for you and be at the centre of it all
- Forgive me Lord of all my iniquities, bless me abundantly and make me a blessing unto others, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
