Living For God or For Yourself?

“He will judge everyone according to what they have done. He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.”

Memory verse: 1 John 2:6 “Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.”

Life is good but so many things can be confusing in life. In the midst of that confusion, the word of God gives clarity to everything in every way, to be more precise, it gives clarity in the most Crystal way. The scriptures written as an inspiration by God and the Holyspirit, a gift from God are the two perfect navigators that can give direction and help one find our God given purpose in life. They both give that confidence we need to progress without fear of ending up taking the wrong turn or direction in life.

There’s much to be enjoyed in life and the scriptures admonishes us that God created us just after he had created everything for our comfort. He gave us dominion over all those things and then He rested. We see clearly that even when Adam was alone and constantly being kept company by animals and eventually God brought someone of His kind, as a friend, wife, gist partner and more. She filled that void in Adam’s life and was created by God so Adam could have a life that was well balanced and beautiful, Genesis 2:18,21-23.

But soon as there was comfort, we see that man started to divert attention from the ways of God and commenced reasoning with the serpent until the great fall which led to withdrawal of benefits and ultimately spiritual death.

It’s clear from the origin of man that the flexibility God has given us gives rise to a tendency to deviate from the ways of the Lord in pursuit of things we think will give us more fulfilment.

Matthew 6:22 says “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon: money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord.”  Attempting to serve two masters either consciously or unconsciously leads to things going wrong and from here, people who find themselves in such position starts to struggle and often get into more unpleasant situations. This deteriorates to the point of compromising on Godly beliefs, their faith is affected and their lives eventually fall into a trap that is set by the serpent just like eve.

With God, you cannot be in between. You either live for God or live for yourself, it is that simple. When Eve decided to live for herself, we see the reward; the fall of the entire human race. It therefore remains important to know that while the grace of God is excessive and new every morning, God will still judge you and I by how we live our individual lives and what we have done, Genesis 3.

You cannot live for God and be making negotiations with the devil, just like you cannot say you live for God and be doing things that are obviously contrary to His word. Don’t be deceived Christianity is not a status, it’s about living your everyday life to glorify God.

Are you truly living your life for God or are you carried away by religious activities that makes you believe you are?
