An Unoccupied Space!

“Then Satan entered Judas, surnamed Iscariot, who was numbered among the twelve. So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray Him to them. And they were glad, and agreed to give him money. So he promised and sought opportunity to betray Him to them in the absence of the multitude.”

Memory verse: “So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ Luke 19:13

Our Lord Jesus Christ was a very busy man during His time on earth and we read from the bible that He spent majority of His time teaching not only when He was at the temple but at every opportunity He had. Jesus got engaged in various activities teaching, praying , miracles and in His early years we read from the bible that He was involved in carpentry just like His step father Joseph Mark 6:2-3.

The life of a Christian is one which should imitate Christ in every way and being occupied doing the right thing is the only direction to go. The phase “An idle mind is the devil’s worship” is one which we have heard for years and it’s often used as a motivation tool towards being productive and the Bible also reveals some shocking truth about what happens when we become idle. The book of proverbs and Ecclesiastes sheds some light on this, Proverbs 10:2-8, Proverbs 21:24-26, Ecclesiastes 4:2-6.

The devil enjoys seeing vacant minds because he builds his empire in them and uses them to carry out his atrocities. Jesus teaches us about the return of an unclean spirit and we see the repercussions of being idle minded, “Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.” Matthew 12:44-45

Judas was amongst the disciples of Jesus yet of everyone, Satan found his mind as the perfect instrument to execute the great betrayal. If the word of God had been well established in Judas’s heart and he was fully occupied, then there would have been no space for the devil in his life.

What are you doing with your time and life? The time spent chilling and binging on Social media, TV, computer games and the likes does not count as being busy and whiles indulging is not a bad idea, if majority of our hours are daily spent on these activities then we are exposed.

Don’t expose yourself like Judas. Once the devil gets hold of the mind, we see that he begins to and continually manipulates and control that individual towards destruction. Judas was destroyed and he eventually hung himself  Matthew 27:5.

Jesus wants us doing the fathers business until He returns.
