“Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Memory Verse: “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:18.
Why do we worry? We worry for so many reasons, but the most common reasons are the fear of disappointment and failure . We just don’t know what will happen and everything can become so overwhelming that we just begin to panic and worry. Then in those times, the devil finds something to throw to the mix and we just remain in our worried state.
If only Job could share his story in person; but we read from the bible that while one thing seemed to be going wrong, the devil added more. His oxen and donkeys were taken by the Sea bean, they even killed his servants but that was not enough. Then his herd of sheep and other servants were attacked, then his camel and another set of servants; then while he was still confused, his children got a hit too. All of his sons and daughters were wiped out, but job blew my mind with his initial response. he spoke saying “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21 .
In all of those things happening, Job himself did not sin against God and most of us get worried for every single thing happening in our lives, forgetting that worry births fear which then changes our focus from God to the situation.
Our constant worry shows our lack of understanding of God’s word and our lack of absolute trust for Him. We had or have it all figured out, our present and future; and then we are scared it may not go according to plan. All those things and ways that seem good to us are exactly what we want but without God at the centre of it all, there is a tendency to continue to worry.
There’s no benefit in praying and worrying! Let God be God and we remain His children fully trusting His plans for our future even when it doesn’t align with our desires. “Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” Psalms 37:5.
When we worry, we fail to enjoy the God given blessings, benefits, mercy, grace, and abundance of today. We miss out on them daily and end up in a state of ungratefulness.
