Following Christ, Yet Human!

“At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!”

Memory Verse: “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalms 34:18

One of the things I have struggled with over the years is the scripture which reminds us in John 4:24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”. This lingers on my mind from time to time as I long for a deeper relationship with God but find myself doing some of the things that are totally contrary to what I would have loved to do. I then beat myself up and find myself trying to revive myself because it’s so important that I maintain a relationship with God but the cycle of pleasing myself never seem to end.

God is in one form and we His creation are in another thus when Jesus had to come on the assignment of paying the great sacrifice for our sins, He came in human form to go through the process that human went through. As a result of Jesus being in human flesh, He felt a whole lot of emotions during His time on earth, yet He had the power over sin.

The spirituality of God means that to truly be called a child of God, we need to understand what it means to be walking with God. When we are focused on worshipping Him in spirit and truth, we are not focused on religious activities, manmade rituals or emotional services but remain fully devoted, dependant, submissive to God; daily living a life full of humility and grace.

God is spirit but we are flesh so we see when the disciples were hungry, they could only be fed with real food to keep their physical body’s alive but to maintain relationship with God they needed to be spiritually fed by Jesus through His word, teachings, inspirations, and commandments. We as children of God are to focus on what keeps out spirit man alive and not organised religious rituals. We see in the life of Christ while on earth how He took time out to worship, pray and fellowship with God wherever He found Himself. He knew God was not limited by fleshy limitation and He was totally devoted to God.

God is invisible, omniscient and omnipresent and unlike man, God does not look at the outward ceremonies nor does he get excited about who has become an expert of repetitive activities. God is more interested in the heart that is humble and fears Him.

Worshipping God is worshipping Him from your heart genuinely.
