“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.“
Memory Verse:
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23..
Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, those three words are commonly used in conversations relating to the past, present, and future and therefore it seems to have a lot of impact which drives our actions, decisions and plans in almost everything in life.
The bible also cites a lot of references on how to deal with everyday life challenges with Jesus telling us how approach them. He says in Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Many at times we worry so much about tomorrow, driving ourselves too hard and piling up a lot of pressure on ourselves, all because we don’t know what tomorrow holds for us. While we can spend all day worrying about tomorrow, we will never be able to tell what tomorrow holds because God has made it so. All we have to do is hope and trust God’s promises about our tomorrow which He says will be full of hope but one thing we can do well is controlling what happened yesterday.
Though it may seem like yesterday is the foundation for today, many times people who think they’ve made one mistake or another in their yesterday seem to struggle to focus on today. They keep trying to fix things that are gone and as a result fail to enjoy the beauty of the current day and with every day that passes by, they miss out on the God given beauty, grace, mercy and abundance that today holds.
Paul the Apostle had a mix of all sorts of troubles in his life but we see from his life which he shared in Philippians 3:13-14, that he never wasted time on yesterday. Every day has new mercies loaded into them by God, but constantly focusing on yesterday could mean we miss out on today entirely.
Let’s focus on the goal and whiles yesterday may be full of mistakes, with the help of God’s daily mercy and our focus on today, we can get mercy activated each and every day.
