United We Stand, Divided We Fall!

But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Beelzebub.

Memory Verse: Again, I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. Matthew 18:19

Many at times, we do a lot of things out of ignorance or shall we say due to lack of understanding? Yes, we read the bible, we hear the word from preachers and teachers, we read books and even work in organisations where a lot of emphasis is laid on teamwork but half of the time as humans, we go out of the room forgetting almost everything which was said or discussed. This happens because we find a way to prioritise ourselves and assume that once we find contentment then we have achieved results.

Today we read from a very familiar bible verse in the scripture, one in which Jesus casted out demon from a man who was mute and the people though amazed by the miracle, began to question his authority. Jesus knew their minds and without the people initiating a conversation, he told them “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls” Luke 11:17. With this in mind we know that unless we have a united front in all then it’s better to walk in isolation than be involved in a team that works against itself.

We know that God desires for us to be helped always and we see in the bible that God created Eve just so Adam can have help. And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” Genesis 2:18 so God presented Eve to Adam and they had a united front until the devil found a way to redirect Eve’s focus.

At that point of redirection, Eve was no longer on the same page with Adam because she had changed direction and as a result they both sinned against God and was punished Genesis 3.

So we know from the very beginning that once we cannot walk in unity, we fall and Jesus clarifies this in Luke 11:17 but how is that possible when the world is a selfish place with everyone only trying to focus on themselves?

The response is in our level of trust in God and His word. Our test of Christianity is not in the time we spend in church or carrying out religious activities but in the ability to obey the word of God even when its uncomfortable so, we can enjoy the full benefited of His kingdom.

Maintaining unity is not something that can be done by the natural human as our body is constantly fighting our spirit, hence we need the help of the holyspirt in changing our inner man and the more of the spirit of God we have, the less of us. “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.  I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:26.

Jesus was and is always one with the father John 10:30 and this level of unity is the reason why Jesus was able to achieve all He did whiles on earth. If we truly want to do greater works than Jesus did, then we cannot afford to be divided. Everything we get involved in without being united is just an activity that may lead to no real success.
