“After they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave.” Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt, where he stayed until Herod died.
This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, “I called my Son out of Egypt.”
Memory Verse:
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Luke 6:46″
Many times in life, we are hesitant to comply when given instructions but the question to ask is why? Are we unsure or we just don’t trust that we can deliver effectively? A few days back, I was having a conversation and as part of that conversation, I shared an instruction of what the Holy spirit dropped on my mind. My friend asked, do you mean you have to do it now? At that moment, I began to examine myself and then thought, she might be right! I don’t have what it takes to execute the instruction at the moment, but up until that conversation, I didn’t try to check my resources and how it will happen. I immediately told my friend, I heard the instruction clearly so I will not bother about how God will make it happen, but I know if He sent me, He is capable of making all things available for His Glory.
A very painful situation anyone can find themselves in is to say “I heard God” but begin and start to struggle. As human beings, upon hearing God, it makes a lot of sense to do a feasibility study. It’s a bit like building a house, without planning the measuring the related costs. Even Jesus gave analysis, stating the cost of being a disciple of Christ, according to Luke 14:28-30. The point to note is that this house being refereed to here is one where we initiated the plan and the end result would have been to glorify yourself. There is therefore the need to put cost into consideration else the world may mock us. When God Himself gives an instruction for His Glory, our person, resources, and skills are secondary while His becomes primary. God always has a plan to fulfill that which He has called us to.
God sent a message through an angel to Joseph in a dream and Joseph immediately took the child (Jesus) and His mother that midnight out of Judea. He did not think of how they may or may not survive because God initiated that plan! It was up to God to make provision not Joseph. Abraham’s blessing was not because he did anything special but he got an everlasting promise because he followed God’s instructions trusting him completely.
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Genesis 12:1, 4.
When God sends us on a mission, it’s for His own glory and it’s different from when we initiate a plan ourselves, so if you have heard from God like Joseph and Abraham did, get up now and Move!
