Is There Division In Christianity?

“For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”

Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 11:10 “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”

Have you ever been amongst Christians and become so confused about what exactly is happening in that particular gathering? Does it almost feel like there is confusion in the air about the difference between Christ’s followers and men followers? If you are in this boat then you’re not alone as we see from today’s bible text in 1Corinthians 11:11-13, Apostle Paul had to address the division that was fast happening between the Corinth who were described as enriched in the knowledge of Christ 1Corinthians 11:4 but were becoming distracted by wanting to be followers of Paul, Apollos, Cephas. This distraction if not address could quickly split followers of Christ and cause a change of direction in the lives of many.

The same happens in today’s word where there seem to be a diversion of interest. People out in the world are evangelizing, spreading God’s word, a good act but with the wrong intention, for their own benefits. So in essence, a bigger congregation may seem like a lot of active Christians but is that’s really the case?

Religious activities do not mean a relationship with God and if at any point in time we do things for our own benefits as if we doing it for the Lord then we already have our reward on earth. The mission of every Christian should be speaking out the truth of the word ALL to the glory of God. The result of such is that many souls will be added to the kingdom of God. The bible tells us “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10

Our vision as Christians is to speak the same language; oneness in Christ with no division and selfish motives behind the course. Christ is not divided and so Christianity should not be divided. If truly we are children of God, then truly our focus should be on Christ alone.

Building a relationship with the Lord is the only way that pleases Him. “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10
