Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.” And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So, they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words. Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
So, he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?”
Memory Verse: If anyone among you thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. James 1:26.
Joseph was 17-year-old and a brilliant boy when his life took a turn but the event in his life meant that life had given him a dose of hardship long before he turned 17. Racheal the wife of Jacob, the mother of Joseph died during childbirth and though Benjamin was born, Racheal died Genesis 35:18-19. This meant that Joseph and his brother were brought up by their mother’s maid, later turned wife, named Bilal who also had children for their father Jacob, Genesis 30:3-5.
Joseph was loved by his father as the baby of the house, and it remained so till his mother had another son. The birth of Benjamin brought mixed fillings for Jacob as though a new son was born, Jacob lost the love of his life so his love of Jacob. Joseph remained the most loved by his father and though he had no mother; he was very close to his father’s heart. This meant that his other brothers hated him Genesis 37:4.
The hatred Jacob’s brother had for him originated from jealousy, but it grew intensely when Joseph opened his mouth and told them his God given dream and opened up to his enemies.
And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind. Genesis 37:11.
Who could have thought that his brothers will hate him to the point of death?
Envy leads to all sort and in this case Joseph’s brother tagged him “The dreamer” and planned his death, Genesis 37:19-20. If Reuben hadn’t stepped in, Joseph’s life and destiny would have been terminated and even though he was destined for greatness, his destiny would have been cut short and he will have died without fulfilling purpose.
Some of us are life Joseph! We just don’t know how to keep mute; we have no understanding that even when we have a revelation or information from God about our life or destiny, our duty is to walk with God not men till fulfilment. We get overly excited and carried away by what we have and what God has shown us that we invite the enemy into our life, who then works tirelessly to terminate our own destiny.
Keeping our mouth sealed is the only way to a peaceful life and whiles the bible tells us “Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. Proverbs 15:22, it is important to ask the Holyspirt for direction on who and who not to speak to. Opening our mouth to speak to just anyone is setting ourselves up for failure.
The holyspirt is our guide and will direct us to the right people to speak to if we need be!
PRAYERS
- Father I thank you for your grace and favour
- Thank you for everything you do for me.
- Father help me to focus on you, know when to speak and be quiet
- Father every plans of the enemy to destroy my destiny be destroyed in Jesus name.
- Father fight my battles, arise and let my enemies be scattered.
- Forgive me Lord of all my iniquities, bless me abundantly and make me a blessing unto others, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
