I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
Memory Verse: For it makes no difference whether or not a man has been circumcised. The important thing is to keep God’s commandments, 1 Corinthians 7:19.
When a company tries to introduce a new product into the market, they don’t just lunch it on an assumption that it will serve purpose to the potential consumers, more often the consumers drive the requirements of the product either directly or indirectly. Some companies are so good that they do surveys and detailed researches before developing a product and go through extensive testing to ensure their development has met with consumer’s requirements or satisfy consumer needs before even considering signing the product off as fit for use or consumption. All these stages of development are to ensure they product owners have met with what truly matters.
Different things matter to a lot of us. If I ask people to think about what truly matters right now, some of the responses will be my children, my this and that but if I ask the same set of people during a sermon on Sunday, most people will immediately respond with God. As such, it is clear that what truly matters in the life of individuals can be driven by environmental facts, age, religion, financial statues and the rest alike but have you ever wondered as a child of God, what truly matters to God?
The starting point of every Christian journey should be based on understanding what really matters to God himself since we are entering into a relationship with Him; a relationship that goes beyond life on earth.
The only relationship that is able to sustain us with the same level of love in this life and eternal is that which we build with God. For an earthly relationship to be successful, we see that people spend time observing each other, trying to find out what’s really important to the other person and begin to work towards those important things until it becomes a way of life because only then can the relationship be successful, else what we see is a relationship that may not be able to stand the test of time.
If our relationship with God is important as we say, why then don’t we often reflect on what’s important to Him? This is why Paul and Timothy wrote to the church in Philip. The church written to here ware diligent according to Philippians 1:5. They have been faithful to spreading the good news of Christ and have been consistent in doing so but Paul prayed for the church to keep on growing in the knowledge and understanding of God so their lives can continue to be pleasing to God. Philippians 1:9-10.
Paul revealed to us the importance of love. He lays emphasis on a type of love which doesn’t conditionally but continuously overflows. Showing unlimited love coupled with continuous growth is the only way our life will be pleasing to God. For God Himself is love and if we ever see it as important to please Him and do his bidding, we will do everything out of unconditional love.
This seem rather simple but we see the lack of understanding radiates everywhere even in the Christian community today. Unless you have an understanding of what’s important to God and actively live your life towards trying to walk in the love with God and man, you may be misplacing priorities.
Once you have an understating and intentionally walk with the understanding, you will be living a Christ like life and will be doing what truly matters to the God.
Are you living based on what truly matters to God or is your walk with Him about you?
