“Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship,” Read Acts 8:26-39
Memory Verse: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
‘What on earth am I here for?’ a caption which got me pondering for a while after reading The purpose driven life by Rick Warren. The book title carried so much weight in meaning I got stuck for a while thinking on God’s purpose for my life and the important assignment I may have been sent on this journey for. From that point I began the journey to self-discovery. All these happened even before I read chapter 1.
The whole theory of dreams and plans are repeated in a lot of books by top selling authors with millions of copies sold worldwide yearly but the reality of lessons learnt from those books are not brought into light by the practical way we live our lives. With all the study coupled with the level of misdirection in life, there’s a clear evidence that there is no direct relationship between the books we read and the quality of life we lived. Without doubt, we are readers, but a rhetorical question remains, “are we practical following our reading?”
Today’s bible reading is one which clearly shows the purpose to which Philip was sent in a particular direction. The gospel of Christ had to travel to Ethiopia and Philip was the instrument for the job but suppose Philip didn’t heed the instructions given, he may just have spent a huge part of his life roaming about and living other people’s lives, vision or purpose. He may have simply been minding everything but his business and at such will not have fulfilled the purpose of the assignment given to him.
The earlier we realise that God has created us for a purpose which may be currently unknown, the earlier we may start aiming to work in partnership with the Holyspirit to realise that purpose and stop wandering around living a purposeless life.
As the popular saying goes “life without Christ is Crisis”, you may achieve really amazing things in life but still not be fulfilling your God given purpose. The only one capable of clarifying your purpose and assignment in life is He who gave you the assignment and with the help of the Holyspirit, you become equipped with everything needed to complete that assignment.
Moses was created for a purpose, Aaron for a different purpose and Joshua another purpose. Their lives would have been totally meaningless should they have gone opposite to what their assignment is life was.
What’s your assignment this minute on Earth? Are you living within the will of God or just taking every day as it comes?
God is able to redirect you back to the center of your purpose if you will just call on Him.
I encourage you to call on God today. Remember the scripture says call on me and I will answer you and I will show you great and mighty things which you know not of. He is waiting on you, call on God today and He shall help you live in the purpose for which He created you.
