Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:2 “You only have I known of all the families of the earth; Therefore, I will punish you for all your iniquities.”3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

Don’t we all just love the promises of God! Many of us Christians are so quick to look into the book of Genesis 12 and we do a good job at claiming every good thing that was written to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3 “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed”.
The usual response is a resounding Amen but what we fail to do is absorb the very first instruction that was given to Abraham. God told him “Get out of your country, From
your family” and Abraham’s responsibility was to do as he was instructed by God and so as we progress reading through, we see the promises of God fulfilled in his life as a result of Abraham’s obedience and taking responsibility.
The story of the Children of Israel started with Abraham taking responsibility and with their deliverance from the people of Egypt came promises according to Deuteronomy 28:1-14 but with all those promises they also had responsibilities. The bible tells us the promises were tied to a condition which requires them to perform their responsibilities. They were to diligently obey the voice of the Lord God, to observe carefully all His commandments which He command commanded them, Deuteronomy 28:1.
What many of us want is juicy promises without responsibilities! We really just want everything free and if possible without even having a relationship with God but there is real danger in this type of mindset. When God gives us instructions and promises, we then have must play our part not only in making those promises come to pass but to ensure we continue to enjoy the benefits of such promises.
Amos 3:1-3 shows us that failure to walk with God means there is no such things as agreement. We simply cannot say God has not done His path when we choose to act in ways contrary to His word. Our complete obedience and taking our responsibities on board is what activates those promises we love so much.
Failure to keep up to our part may result in punishment like we see in the life of the Israelites. God cannot be mocked, we cannot eat our cake and have it. We either want those promises or not and if we say we do, then it’s time to take charge, time to accept responsibility, time to act on His word and begin to see His promises come to pass in your life.
PRAYERS
- Father I thank you for another great day full of your promises
- I renounce laziness from today, I take on responsibility and receive the grace to be diligent at it
- Help me Lord to discover my purpose in life and thrive in it
- Heal me of ever pains and hurts Lord, help me to surrender all to you and not seek revenge
- Help me not to gloat over my enemies, but to celebrate you in humility while you fight for me
- Locate me in my time of need O Lord, and let me not take any step except that which you guide me to.
- Help me Lord to live in oneness following your principles and sharing your love with others
- Help me to believe in the abilities you have given me, understand my formation and cast aside every element of worry and attributes of setbacks.
- Help me to be fully devoted to you and be passionate about my relationship with you
- Go Ahead of Me Lord, guide me, order my steps, direct me and let this be my year of unprecedented grace.
- Give me Oil, keep me burning and let me never depart from your presence.
- Forgive me Lord of all my iniquities, bless me abundantly and make me a blessing unto others, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
