Living A Religious Life Without Repentance!

“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’  He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.  For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

Memory Verse:
But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousness’s are like filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6a..

The present state of the world seems very confusing; a million and one things have changed and continue to change rapidly. Even worse, is the vast impact social media has in the life of individuals; without doubt positive but huge content of it dangerously negative in impact. Basically, the time that could be spent making real impact is now spent on social media trying to create an impression. Everyone wants to be somebody either the right or wrong way but most importantly everyone wants the world to perceive them in a certain way, therefore people go to any extent to build an image based on their expected followers and continue to live a lie. People just crave acceptance and have become “people pleasers”.

As we now live in a world where people believe they are right and in good standing because their online followers approve of them, it’s fast becoming difficult to live by and according to God’s given standard. People are now more accustomed to creating their own version of what’s morally true and justifiable and having done that, simply continue to live by it.

For those who know they are children of God, Righteousness means being right in the eyes of God and not man. Jesus addresses these differences with the parable of the two sons.

The first son, who gave the father the impression that he would not go but later did go and the other son who promised to do the Father’s will but ended up not doing so. Jesus likened the religious leaders and all those who claim self-righteousness to the son who gave the father the wrong impression and ended being a disappointment but likened tax collector and prostitute who the world thinks are outcasts as those who have the benefit of entering the kingdom of God if they repent. Matthew 21:31-32.

Righteousness is God-Centred and because no man can attain it through self-effort, we will only continue to follow our own path just being religious without actually truly repenting, until we put God at the centre of it all.

Righteousness is life, God is the ultimate source of righteousness and if we truly focus on Him in all areas of our lives, we will surely find life, peace and true acceptance.

In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway, there is no death. Proverbs 12:28.
