For God said to Moses, “I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose.” So, it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it. So, you see, God chooses to show mercy to some, and he chooses to harden the hearts of others, so they refuse to listen
Memory Verse: Titus 3:5, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
It absolutely creates an amazing feeling when being called a Christian because it shows there is evidence of greater works and God’s grace and mercy upon our lives. But as children of God do we have a sound understanding of what unmerited mercy is? Mark Hopkins once described Mercy with a well of water illustration. He said Our prayers and God’s mercy is like two buckets in a well of water; while one ascends, the other descends. I guess this explains itself clearly. There is this school of thought where several Christians believe mercy is a contractual right because we are Children of God, some don’t bother pray to God for it. There is this assumption that He will have mercy anyway because he is not a wicked God, but we seem to forget that there’s a logic of asking and receiving. Asking places, you a better position to receive because we receive unmerited mercy by God’s grace.
By Max Lucado’s measures, Grace is God’s best idea. His decision to ravage a people by love, to rescue passionately, and to restore justly. Often in life we don’t attach a lot of meaning to things until they start applying to us particularly. just like when you buy a new car, up until you purchase and drive away from the showroom, it almost feels like you’ve only seen the automobile a few times, but the minute you get on the road, it suddenly feels there are more of that same brand being driven by others. It becomes more visible and you see more of it.
Such is it like the word “Mercy”. For a fact, it may not really mean much to you until you find yourself in a position where you are fully dependent and needing of it yourself. When all you know will get you out of a situation is God’s mercy and in your innermost heart by all Godly standards, know you don’t deserve it. Interestingly in today world, it seems quite a difficult decision when it comes to showing mercy to others and this is because we try to gauge to see if they are worth and deserving of it. In fact, showing mercy is choosing to have compassion even when the person is not deserving of it.
Our relationship with God is enveloped around Mercy. Truthfully speaking, I don’t know how we would have survived living in today’s word if not for His mercy. We live in a world soaked in sin, of which most times we find ourselves taking part in, 1 John 1:8. Our involvement in sin automatically denies us any access to God and all He owns, which happens to be the whole earth we live in, Psalm 24:1, but because of His mercy we are not consumed Lamentations 3:22 .
Because God’s mercies are new every morning Lamentations 3:23, we have fresh new opportunities every day to abundantly benefit from his goodness and mend paths. Even though we were dead because of our sins, he has given us life when he raised Christ from the dead. Ephesians 2:5
Even if you followed all the rules ever listed and are of your very best human behaviour, this does not automatically qualify you for God’s mercy. You can never work enough for it or deserve it as a right. Today’s bible text according to Romans 9:15-16, 18 reminds us about how everything God does for us is out of mercy which we are clearly undeserving of because God chooses whom to have mercy on and who not to.
I encourage you today as you have studied to review your life and ask yourself, do I live a life that is mercy filled or do I constantly harden by heart and live in sin? Make a decision to live a spirit filled live, one that has compassion and is positioned for one, and constantly pray for the mercy of God in all areas of your life.
God’s mercy knows no limits and is available to all who call on Him.

· Father, thank you for morning by morning new mercies I see and all I have needed You have provided. Great is your faithfulness.
· Father help me from today, to serve you selflessly and not to love the things of the world but to focus solely on fellowshipping with you.
· Help me not to live a spirit filled life, take away every carnality from me, help me to live right before you
· Father let your mercy and grace locate me and be sufficient for me,
· Thank you, Father for the forgiveness of sins and answers to prayers, In Jesus name I Pray, Amen
