Bible Text: Genesis 1:2 “the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water.”
Memory Verse: Hebrews 3:4 “Every house, of course, is built by someone and God is the one who has built all things.”
The word of God is new every day and what brings more meaning to that statement is today’s bible text. This text alights from a part of the scriptures which is very easy to come across and just like opening a newly acquired book to know what the beginning says, the very first page of the first chapter of the Scriptures lays great emphasis on formlessness and desolation and yet, this is interpreted differently every single time as it could be applied to numerous situations in the journey of life.
The year has officially kicked off, everyone is easing back into normal flow and work, business and life balance, and in a time like this everything usually looks formless. The idea of what everyone intends to do with the year becomes overwhelming, looking very tasking to achieve even though there are 365 days to go through it all, we at times become so hasty we forget that the opportunities are limitless.
There is no such thing as “achieving ahead” else there won’t be a need for goals setting and aspirations to achieve. But God is so generous, He leaves everything in a formless state to enable us shape our lives with Him in a way that pleases us and most importantly according to His will and purpose for which He created us.
When God commenced creation, the formlessness of the earth made it smoother to implement His own imagination, taste and structure; it would probably have been slightly more tasking and taken more than 7 days, had the earth already been populated, Genesis 1:2. Hence it is a big opportunity and grace given by God to start a new year and be able to define our own taste and schedule structure with God being the front line. That’s why the scripture tells us that His mercies are new every morning, Lamentation 3:22-23.
God has given us all equal opportunities with 24hrs every day to create our day and transform the formlessness into something meaningful, bearing in mind that what you create is totally dependent on your ability to see the God given opportunities around you.
If you are starting the year looking confused at the formlessness of everything around you, I encourage you inquire of the Lord. Do not have a mindset of impossibility or be scared that nothing is going to come forth because you do not have a clear vision, be unshakable and go to God for direction, see this as an opportunity to walk with God in creating your world all the way through the year.
It’s better starting formlessly so you can embrace the year ahead and get to work as God backs you and directs you. Remember we are branches in His Vine, without Him, we can do nothing. John 15:5.
