Bible Text: Matthew 13:16-17 “But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, but they didn’t see it. And they longed to hear what you hear, but they didn’t hear it.”
Memory Verse: John 15:16 NLT “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”
What happens when your mind wonders? Looking close to home, I have a very active mind and as a naturally curious person, one of the things my mind wonders and ponders on was how God speaks to people, and the unexpected people at that. My imagination of that was far different from the experience itself and like the boy Samuel, I’m sure most people get confused when the see something different or hear God for the first time.
Interestingly the story of the first time God called Samuel is an explanation of what Jesus was telling His disciple in today’s bible text. 1 Samuel 3 explains that Samuel was just a little boy and an assistant to Priest Eli. Samuel had no position or title but God opened his ears to hear that which Eli could not even hear yet, even though Eli was a Priest.
The Lord chooses who He wants to speak through and to and being a genuine and active Christian positions you in a more favorable category of people God can use to deliver His message to the world. God can absolutely use anybody, Christian or no Christian, adult or child, saved or sinner. The beautiful thing is that God values relationships, He is actively always trying to converse with us and to get His message across, He uses you and I directly or indirectly, thereby opening our eyes to see those things which ordinary people will not usually see and making our ears attentive to hear those things the ordinary ears will or mind not hear.
He said when he wants to do something, He reveals it to his servants first, Amos 3:7, and a question I will like to ask is, are you a genuine servant, He has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light and part of the purpose for this is positioning you to be used by God. Definitely God can talk through many people, but most of his important messages and information are conveyed to and delivered by people who are His sheep. As a sheep, you will definitely know the voice of your Shepherd, hence when God speaks or is speaking through someone else, you will know and hear clearly. It prevents you from being tossed around by ever wind of doctrine.
You have heard the truth about the word of God and He has given you the understand to The secret things of the kingdom so therefore you have a responsibility to deliver to the world what the Lord has shown you. A lot of people feel inferior because they can’t see why God will show them and speak through them and not directly to their pastor, but God is not a respected of man.
God shows and tells you so you can be sure that His words will prove reliable but your ability to hear more from Him might be dependent on if you deliver that which He has sent you.
Are you still in fear like The boy Samuel was? Remember you didn’t choose Him, He chose you and He will be with you to honour His word.
Prayers
- Father I thank you for a wonderful day
- I pray for the grace to be used by you, open my ears to hear from you, enable my eyes to see the direction in which you are pointing me, and empower my mouth to deliver to the word that which you have send me.
- Help me to fully acknowledge You for direction, live above fear of uncertainties and grant me the boldness to see beyond all impossibilities
- Forgive my iniquities Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
- Thank you Father and in Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.
