Hunger No More!

Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Memory Verse: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

The thought of hunger is really scary and if we take a look at the world today, despite the increased level of awareness, some people still don’t understand what it means for others to be hungry. Via social media platforms, we see a lot of advertisements and display food cook ups by food kitchen and MasterChefs, we see food competition shows and likewise charities handing out food to the needy. We see celebrities doing give always just to support people and prevent hunger, literarily everyone is doing their bits here and there yet there is still continuous hunger all around the world.

Hunger is a cycle, you eat and pass it out so there is always hunger. What you eat in the morning can hardly sustain you for 6 hours, some may say they have trained their mind hence they skip meals but how much can you really train your mind before your natural body begins to demand it? As it was in the beginning, so it is now; our body has been trained to fuel. When God created Adam and Eve, He immediately gave them fuel to function Genesis 1:29-30, that’s how our body is wired, we just have to feed else our body begins to react to hunger.

Just has the human body functions with physical food, the spiritual mind can also be in a state of hunger. We can be physically wealthy and spiritually bankrupt. If we can take time to feed our physical bodies with quality food, why then do we let our spiritual body remain in an unfed state of hunger? If you are someone with an appetite like me, I basically eat without control though while at it I try to be healthy. I one day asked myself, how many times a day do you really feed your spiritual mind?

Today, Jesus talks about Himself being the bread of life! He who comes to Him shall never hunger and He who believes in Him shall never thirst. I call that a balance diet and it sure is but the key is not only to come to Christ but remain in Christ. Your output will be dependent on what you feed yourself, just like if you spend your whole day on carbs and little water, you may suddenly notice additional weight and tired looking skin which may mean as you grow older you may start to encounter regular health issues. Spiritually when you accept Jesus and walk away, it may be almost impossible to function properly talk less of in full capacity.

Jesus is the bread of life and we need to do all to stay connected to Him and hold on to our belief. This is because only then can we be spiritually balanced. Just like you eat physical food throughout the day maintaining your 5 a day balance, feed yourself spiritually too and endeavor to have a healthy spiritual diet. You don’t always need to have huge meals, you can just nibble. You don’t always have to spend hours praying, studying, preaching and the rest alike, but bits here and there develops you to the point where you can spend hours with God daily. While good quality time should be daily included in life, this includes nibbles like quick prayer throughout different times of the day, pick a scripture verse and dwell on it or do any other thing that can help you grow spiritually. Worship and the rest alike keeps you keyed in His presence.

Whatever you do, do something every day towards feeding yourself. You will begin to blossom at a rate you can never imagine and whiles you seek first the things of Gods kingdom, Jesus says all these things of the world will be added to you. We are not encouraged to be lazy here or depend on just feeding ourselves spiritually but we are encouraged that in everything we do , God should come first.

Let your everyday life begin with you eating from the bread of life and continue your day feeding on the bread on life.
