Even Jesus Was Abandoned!

At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?”

Memory Verse: Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10.

Are you feeling abandoned, disappointed and really angry at yourself or someone or a group of people right now because you think though you have given it everything and invested all you have, the least they could have done is simply stick around when the going gets tough? I will say welcome the reality of life. I say this because even Jesus our Lord was abandoned by those who He called His disciples. Many whom He had spent His time with day and night teaching, supporting, empowering, healing and going all out for, also turned away from Him when things became a little bit uncomfortable. This is the life we live in and if it could happen to Jesus and we are truly a disciple, why do we expect something different?

As followers of Christ, it’s worth preparing our minds that Christianity has more exposure than immunity. It opens us up because the world begins to push boundaries in every area of our lives. The ruler of this world (the devil) is bent of sifting children of God like He did with Simon Luke 22:31 so we must prepare our minds ahead that we may have to face abandonment by those who we most trust would never abandon us.

But we are in a safety net because as long as we continue to dwell in the presence of God, we are guaranteed to remain under His protection, Psalm 91:1. This scripture reminds us that though the world may abandon us but because we have God, there is never a time we will be left alone. Though we will go through hardship, difficulties and tough moments in life that will most likely break us but we can always count on God to be there, remaining steadfast and unmovable when the going gets tough for us.

Whiles we go through our every business dealing with people and things of the world, it is important to know that our relationship with God is the only real and valuable relationship we have. Human beings are only designed to be a support system for only a while and we see this in the life of Job, Joseph, David and many alike according to the scriptures. Every relationship and support system has an expiry date. These people mentioned had a relationship with God so when the whole world turned their back against them, they knew they were never going to walk alone; they were assured Christ is with them. Read the story of the Three Hebrew Brothers and the fiery furnace.

Say this to yourself whenever your feel abandoned “I am never alone”. Jesus had been abandoned so He understands the pain that comes with being abandoned so He has given you his word that “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. “Isaiah 43:2.

Thou the world may leave you feeling stranded, cheer up you are in God’s hands.
