God Given Success!

And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him.  But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.

Memory Verse: The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

For the past few days we seem to have been talking a lot about the boy David and his transformation from being just a Shepard to a world recognised warrior who fought one of the most talked about battle in the bible with the most famous Goliath. David was authentic right from the start hence he ensured God was the solid rock on which he constantly stood. God being his backbone is clearly evident, seeing it in most of the Psalms he wrote, David was always successful with everything he did because God backed him.

David’s success was not age defined, he was successful at every stage of his life from when the bible introduced him as a Shepard boy to when he fought the great fight even until he finally became king over the entire Israel. David lived a successful life all round, a true life example worth reflecting on but looking deeper than the surface, why exactly was David so successful?

Does being successful mean he never faced hard times in life or was David’s life just always perfect and smooth without hurdles and bumps?

The life of David’s is just like the life of every child of God. It was a mix of the good, bad and ugly and with bible references, we see that David experienced numerous suffering all of which started at a very early stage in his life. David was envied by his brothers as a result of his anointing because while all his brothers were readily available when prophet Samuel visited the house of Jesse to anoint a king, the Lord rejected all of David’s brother and sent for the only one(David) not available to be anointed 1Samuel 16:7-13.

David’s brothers were also warriors already enrolled into Saul’s army for battles yet everyone feared Goliath and we see in 1Samuel 17 :28 how his oldest brother Eliab was angry even at David’s enquiry on the prize for anyone that fought successfully against Goliath, 1Samuel 17:26.

All of these and more other struggles shows us that David as a boy was living in harsh conditions day after day but that didn’t stop David from progressing; because unlike most people He was a boy who knew God.

From another perspective, apart from his brothers’ trouble, the scriptures showed us that when the Israelites started praising David following his appointment as a successor more than the then present King Saul, this triggered anger in the heart of David’s predecessor towards David and at that point, King Saul sought to kill the him, 1Samel 18: 7-9.

For David it was from one battle to another maybe a few moment of rest but he was mostly fighting battles of life either on the war front or someone somewhere hating on him but David was steadfast and held onto God.

The only secret behind David’s success was God and for this reason David was not only victorious as a boy and warrior, he was also a successful king over Israel. Even as a king, David fought His battles in the name of the lord hence we see then David was always inquiring of the Lord before he went out against his enemies 2Samuel 5: 19. Even though David had successfully won many battles before becoming king, he never took the position of God for granted, never assumed because he is a known warrior victory is guaranteed by his skills. He committed his battles to God as the forefront; the main reason why He was always successful.

God is the only one capable of making any success out of anything and anyone. The blessing of God does not add any sorrow but it’s important to be aware that the devil will and is always trying to steal that blessing therefore he does everything to attack an individual and make one frustrated but if your blessing is God given then no amount of attack from the devil can prevent you from being successful.

Blessing is good but can only stand the test of time if it comes from God.
