Is The Gospel Wisdom or Nonsense?

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

Memory Verse: But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Luke 11:28

Have you ever met with people who are constantly trying to downplay or discredit the word of God? The conversation often starts from something totally unrelated and you see them drive the discussion towards trying to convince you that God doesn’t exist. This is why it’s important to know God personally, to a point no one is able convince you of His inexistence. Such people bring forth strong arguments, confusing and twisting the gospel truth, doing all to make believers see otherwise. This move is fast becoming confusing for upcoming younger generation as they struggle to balance the reality of the word of God with the human explanation to how the rest of the word perceives things.

The younger generation are not left alone in this struggle as we live around majority of people who find this difficult to balance God and the world, making them remain in a state of foolishness. Every human born into the world automatically is born into a sinful nature and left in a perishing state with the only way out being righteousness derived from accepting Jesus as savior. To all, God has given salvation through the death of Jesus on the cross as the one-time sacrifice for all our sins and as a result we are moved from the perishing state to a graceful access to eternal life but there are some who will remain in the perishing state, those who refuse to accept or maintain a legitimate stand with God.

The people in the world are carried away by the lust of the beauty in this world and if not being careful get totally lost in the way the world presents itself and becomes blinded to the gospel truth. Like a man blinded by colors, Satan has restricted people’s abilities to see the truth by presenting to them the beauties of vanity convincing them these are what God cannot or will not give. This approach is easily recognizable because the devil likewise tried the precise same strategy on Jesus during the temptation in the wilderness in the scriptures according to Matthew 4.

The message of the cross and the understanding of the word of God will always sound foolish to those who are perishing and headed for destruction and unless it pleases God to open their eyes of understanding, we cannot forcefully try to feed them with wisdom. It is important to remember it’s also by choice, God can force us, but as Jesus was sent to the earth to deliver us from perishing, we have a choice to choose eternal life. He says in Deuteronomy 30:19b that “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live”.

To those people who have not trusted in the shed blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sins and God’s free gift of eternal life, the message of the cross will always sound insane and like rubbish. The teachings of the word of God will sound like madness, looking stupid with attributes of silliness. It will present itself as illogical and idiotic but to us who accept Jesus and the message on the cross, it will for us be a redemptive price for the forgiveness of our sins and His glorious resurrection from the dead which promises us eternal life and our blessed hope in Christ’s second coming.

The wisdom that comes from the gospel of God is unfathomable. His powerful ways and His thoughts are passed finding out or unravelling, but in His mercy, He has chosen some to understand it and given the benefit of life. The word of God is the power and wisdom of God.

Choose for thy self which category you belong in, is the gospel wisdom to you or nonsense?
