True Success!

As the time of King David’s death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon: I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.

Memory verse: Joshua 1:8, Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

One of the beautiful sayings of life goes “tiny drops of water make a mighty ocean”. That’s exactly the first thing the Holy Spirit dropped on my mind as I started thinking of the next step to take in planning towards the future.

As individuals, we are born to dream, make plans and strive towards achieving the success that our heart truly desires. After all, the bible tells us in proverbs 10:4 that laziness leads to poverty but being proactive leads to success and the bible reminds us of that ultimately. Our God is not a God of poverty and without doubt stories of success spread around the bible and from our memory verse today, we can tell that God desires we succeed in everything we do. Psalm 1:3 says we will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that yields fruits in the right seasons, leaves don’t go withering away and prosperity is ensured in everything we do. Remember also that it is the blessing of the Lord that makes us rich and adds no sorrow but in waiting for this blessings we must plant out seeds, water it, teal the land, remove the thorns and the weeds and then wait for the Lord God almighty, the giver of success to add bountifulness to the harvest.

One of our major problems form childhood has always been our measure of success. Some idolize success so much they go as far as replacing God with the pursue for success. In the environment I grew up in, the desire for success brought about a lot of negativity and led people to doing really extreme things at the expense of their relationships with God. When it came to success, even people who are followers or Christ, who should live their lives knowing that God never fails, are driven by the pressure and suddenly get caught up in cheating, corruption, lies and various other sins.

Interestingly, when David gave his final words to Solomon, as a father he should have given him all his tips for achieving success based of his own personal experiences, but instead, he gave Solomon the true requirement and key to success, which is “focusing on God”, 1Kings 2:3.

Faithfulness to God means we get to understand that our measure of success may not be God’s measure. Just as he has given different parts of the body the ability to function in their own capacity, men might not agree with the flow and have supposed better ideas, but God’s final decision remains supreme. If God wanted the human hands to be used for walking then he would have given that ability to human just like animals but the leg is said to be successful if it can walk as designed by God.

Your success cannot happen without God John 3:27 and even when you become successful, you cannot really take the credit because it all belongs to God.

The bible urges us to not run ahead of ourselves, an act which puts us in difficult situations and sometimes gets us in trouble, we are advised this because ultimately only the lords purpose will prevail Proverbs 19:25 therefore we are encouraged to seek first the kingdom of God. Matthew 6:33.

True success is when you are able to remain connected God. Do the little things that gets you closer to God daily and see the God manifest himself in your life as you continue to flourish like willows at the river bank. Those who rely on God work like ants and eat like elephants. The surely increases His own exceedingly and abundantly more than you can ever imagine. He is faithful to those who totally rely on Him for their success.
