You Must, You Must Not!

“Then God gave the people all these instructions: “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. “You must not have any other god but me. “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.”

Memory Verse: “A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.” Matthew 22:39.

Few days ago, a specific verse in God’s word kept coming to mind and I was quite desperate to search the bible for it because of a sudden interest in understanding exactly what to do to ensure my children have a divine comprehensive cover, one which flowed from me automatically; just like from David to King Solomon. While searching through the scriptures for this, I realised the importance of also understanding what could invalidate the divine compressive cover.

As I looked through the bible in various versions, I see the emphasis laid on the word “MUST” in NLT version when the commandments were being laid out, one which was written by God Himself and handed over to Moses. That was the Old Testament but a quick look into the New Testament when Jesus summarized all commandments, the same word “MUST” was key in Matthew 22:37 where “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”

Relating this to the business world, in an instance where “MUST” is used in a project requirement, the subject it relates to has to be fulfilled. Failure to fulfill the “MUST” requirement means the project will remain incomplete. Furthermore, if this specific requirement is the first requirement on which other requirements are built and dependent on, without it the whole project becomes invalid.

When God addressed His Child, the very first commandment is a Must and this stands as the first requirement from God. The second, third and other commandments expands the first commandment, all the commandments are in a way attached to each other.

If we walk in line with our “Must” and “Must Not’s” as outlined in the word of God, adhering without fail, God will honour His words in our lives. The ripple effect of understanding the word of God and doing what’s in it to please God means not only our children but our generation to a thousand are divinely comprehensively covered. “But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.” Exodus 20:6.

You Must Love God, You Must love your Neighbor “The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”  Matthew 22:40.
