A Dumping Site!

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’  And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order.  Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

Memory Verse: He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

Growing up in west Africa meant that I was opportuned to see so many things go from bad to worse. It was an environment where you could just live your life as if the whole world belongs to you alone, not caring about how others fare or feel. More specifically, I lived not very far from a dump site which was cleared only when deemed fit and not when it needs to be for hygiene purposes.

The cycle was pretty straightforward, people would dump their rubbish on the site, the site gets cleared up, almost looking as if it was never a dumping site, give it a week and you walk past the same location only to find out its current state is now worse than the previous week. For a fact, it almost feels like the clearer it was, the easier it was for people to dump more trash.

This happens because there is no need to be careful or mind shattered glass that may hurt you as the site in its cleared state is now easy to maneuver. Literally when its full, people tend to look away and find another location but as a known dumping site, the minute its cleared the cycle continues.

The bible today describes the cycle of unclean spirits and how they operate. For the unclean spirit, its constantly looking for a home and whiles it’s a spirt without a body, it is constantly looking for a body to use for its evil intentions. Human beings with a body therefore become the first target for the spirit to try and operate through. This way an individual can begin to do really terrible things because they have become a dumping site where the devil operates outwardly and, manifests his intentions.

Many times we assume it’s alright to go to God, get delivered and move on post one time miracle and as such the extent of our relationship with Him is only when we need Him but in such ways we are making ourselves even more vulnerable than we were before. We become clean and position ourselves unprotected right at a position where we can be taken advantage of by the devil and because we are not properly connected to God, we allow our lives to be overpowered by the devil Luke 11:22.

There is need for consistency and stability for our relationship to grow with God and ordinarily we are not stronger than the devil but with the power of Christ in us, we cease to be the devil’s dumping site.

The devil is not ours to joke or negotiate terms with because his restlessness is at an all-time high. As children of God, we have the responsibility to abide under the shadow of the almighty and in turn God protects our territory with everything, making sure our lives are guarded. For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways Psalm 91:11.

Jesus had 12 disciples who learnt at his feet constantly. They were so close to Jesus and were practically with him always but somehow the devil still managed to get through to Judas and he became the devils dumping site to be used for the greatest evil deed of betrayal against Christ. He was already being used by the devil often as the bible records Judas in John 12 :6, as a thief. This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

It was therefore easy for the devil to use his usual dumping site in the betrayal of Jesus. Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him John 12:27.

The devil needs a human to betray a human and therefore needs a body to do the evil in this world therefore he is constantly searching for dumping sites where he can just dump his evil intentions from time to time and there is no protection from the devil if we don’t remain fully embedded in Christ.
