Worshipping Created Things or The Creator!

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Professing to be wise, they became fools and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

Memory verse: Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’ and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked Revelations 3:17.

Why are things not just straightforward? You would have though that’s seeing is believing but people see and have no excuse not to believe but are individuals so rigid in thinking or are they are just determined not to understand the truth of the gospel? Or has the devil been successful in his wiles that he has been able to convince people and wipe away the truth from their memories?  All these and more are some of the questions we may begin to ask assuming that we are already in the clear because we call ourselves Christians.

In reality, many are called Christians but are still unintentionally actively lost to the lust of their hearts. Where for an unbeliever, it’s clear that they care not about the things of God and are definitely not on the Lords side. With actual believers, it becomes overly complicated. Many of us Christians are not darkened in heart, have become wise in our own eyes and have shifted the glory form God to ourselves. As a result, we aim to please the things God created but not focused on pleasing God.

King Solomon being the wisest of all in his time and a promised child who was created to take over the throne was obviously wise but secretly foolish because he followed the desires of his heart and worshipped things created by human hands. He was therefore destroyed by his secret foolishness and while the rest of the world adored him as king, He had lost his loyalty to God, 1kings 11.

Whenever we change direction from focusing on God and focus on anything else, we are running at risk of being cast away from the presence of God because we can only either be for or against God and cannot be in-between.  “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Revelations 3:15-16.

Everything else was created by God so therefore anytime we invest our life into something else so much that it consumes us leaving no room for the things of God, we have changed direction and are now driven by our selfish desire. Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. Mathew 16:24-25.
