“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”
Memory Verse: “Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.” Proverbs 16:3.
Many times, we struggle to keep still. I personally used to spend a lot of time worrying about the unknown and unforeseeable, I worry about everything from the past, then worry about the present and the future because I want everything to be just fine. But as I began to grow in the knowledge of the word of God, I realised that my worry doesn’t change a thing, it keeps the situation in the same state until I commit my ways to the Lord and surrender all to Him.
A few things drive our worry, some of which can be easily traced to fear, self-dependency, lack of understanding, impatience, previous experiences of failure and the rest alike, but mostly our inability to trust God completely.
Jonah was a man who knew God, he was supposed to go on a God instructed assignment “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” Jonah 1:2 , but Jonah had other plans and went the opposite direction.
Many times, we have a different plan from what God has asked us to do and with that we launch ourselves into a world of worry. We lean on our own understanding and decide that certain areas of our life are better managed by us. In situations like this, because we have removed God from the picture, we become outrightly exposed.
Exposure is dangerous and it’s impossible to keep still when exposed but those who know to trust in the Lord completely with all including the tiny details of their life know that when God is involved, He will renew strength daily so that when we go through the storms of life, we can be still.
Is this possible? Yes, Jesus was sleeping / resting right in the storm, Mark 4:38. We too can live our everyday life and be at peace knowing that God is with us and will be exalted in our life Psalm 46:11.
