Fear The Lord!

“Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the LORD your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess.”

Memory verse: “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:9

New inventions and changes in life makes us think everything can be automated and while this is true, there are still certain things in life that must follow the traditional pattern. When it comes to our life with God, certain things can help with making our lives easy but cannot fully replace the original plan of God.

When a child is born, the child is born with a lot of skills and abilities and will naturally do some things as per their development milestones unless there is a developmental delay. Assuming all goes well, the child is expected to eat, crawl, walk, grow sets of teeth, talk and every other thing in line with their milestones but without help, the ability to read and write will simply not happen.

Although there is the inbuilt ability to read and write, a trigger is still needed to build this part of a child, else the child may not be able to read.

Just in a like manner when it comes to Christianity, an individual who does not hear the word of God will struggle to fear the Lord and obey Him. Hearing the word of God is the only way to understand God and the word is a guide which will helps us understand God’s character and His will concerning everything He created.

Some of the things we can learn about God when we study His word are that He loves us and created us in His own image “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”  Genesis 1:27.

He is a Jealous God “you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,” Exodus 20:5.

He honors only those who honour Him “Therefore the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the LORD says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”I Samuel 2:30.

These are only a few things out of many we know about God our father but those are not something we will know naturally unless we hear and learn at His feet. The one benefit of studying the word of God is that the spirit of God begins to transform our hearts and help us understand who God truly is.

Once we learn about God, we stand a better change of building a long lasting relationship. Any relationship we engage in without trying to understand the other party will definitely crash and this is the same with God.

The disciples through which Christianity went round the world were not born Christians but they learnt at the feet of Jesus while He was on Earth.

The devil is constantly fighting to build his own army, so therefore he is bent on you not understanding or studying the scriptures but the fear of the Lord comes from learning through His word and only then will we have peace.
