Bible Text: Exodus 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song;he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him!
Memory Verse: Psalm 73:26, My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Strength is simply the extent to which an object or individual is able to withstand pressure. That’s why with human beings, you can physically see two different individuals weighing exactly the same on the scale and differing in their level of strength. This is because various contributing factors leads to the weight and strength result. People can also have various strengths physically or mentally but ultimately the overall strength of an individual is based on how much they can withstand physically and mentally overtime, before finally breaking down.
Every human has a maximum strength of what they can physically and mentally handle before they get to breaking point. The bible gives us examples of people who were really strong but as human when they get to breaking point, they either needed a higher strength or they completely fell flat. Looking at the story of David and Goliath according to 1Samuel 17, how much strength would you really have said David had?. The bible recorded Goliath as a philistine champion. A person who has surpassed all his rivals therefore he could be said to be not just physically strong but mentally calculative. You don’t become a champion by being partially good. He was really good and knew his stuff but David was his father’s youngest son, a shepherd boy, yet through God’s grace was able to take the Philistine down through the single weak point which the stone found. An area of his body which was uncovered.
The first responce of king Saul when David presented himself as a representative to fight Goliath was “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.” 1Samuel 17:34 but the king lacked an understanding of what nature of man was in front of him.
He had rated David based on physical appearance, judged him by his age, and most importantly painted a picture in his mind placing him against Goliath and envisaging the outcome. Those were the basis of his statement but young David was operating at a different level of mental strength and believe in God. He didn’t see the massiveness of Goliath, but saw the victory God is capable of having through hum. He was going to fight Goliath with the strength of Him who created Goliath.
Many of the happenings in our everyday life is beyond what our physical and even mental strength can handle but David knew at a very young age how to depend on the strength of God which has no depth or expiry. Everything will fail, even those things we are dependent on will utterly fail, but only God is totally unfailing, His strength is what we see you and I thought when everything and everyone fails.
There’s never been a better time to completely surrender to the strength and authority of God because clearly where the world should be working in unity to build strength, we see countries working against each other, a sign which shows they are even more weakened. The strength of God is all we need now and for the rest of our lives.
Let’s join the rest of the word today as we begin to pray that God strengthens everyone physically, mentally and in all areas. In all, we receive strength to continue praising his name forever.
