“But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. And those members of the body which we think to be less honourable, on these we bestow greater honour; and our unpresentable parts have greater modesty, but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honour to that part which lacks it, that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.”
Memory Verse: But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 1 Corinthians 12:18.
When you watch movies, what you see is he actors and actresses as a finished product, displaying their talents in the most admirable way possible. Having featured in lead roles for a few movies, they are seen by the world as celebrities (A term used to describe a a famous person mostly within the entertainment industry). They are celebrated locally, internationally, and even the social media platforms have a unique identification for them, represented by a blue tick next to their display name. A symbol which recognises them as a public figure, a verification as a recognized individual.
As a result, every young person including adults, desires to become a celebrity. They crave for the attention and worldly recognition and where some young people have not been noticed even within a small audience on social media, they go on to commit suicide because the world has defined being a celebrity as a symbol of success and happiness and are therefore viewed as the most important people in the world.
This attitude is also present in today’s church! Our bible reading shows us that Apostle Paul was concerned for the church in Corinth. The church was and is still preoccupied with people who have obvious spiritual gifts and therefore the congregation only wants gifts and positions within the church, an acquirement which is seen as best.
Apostle Paul addressed this issue with parts of the body, giving the congregation an understanding that though not all parts are visible, those smaller and almost invisible parts are actually the most indispensable. So, when even the weaker part suffers, every part of the body is in pain. 1Corinthian 12:22,26.
Celebrities in general will not look glossy and glamourous without those behind-the-scenes touch ups and the UHD cameras making things look crystal and without blemish. Same as the general congregation, a church may have one individual with the best spiritual give but will not be able to function properly without other parts. So, as the photographer is of value, so is that brother/sister whom you think has nothing to offer.
You have more value than you can ever imagine. God intentionally created you and positioned you where you are right now, all for His own Glory. 1Corinthian 12:18.
If all you can say today is one statement, then repeat this until you can comfortably hold unto it “I am of value to God”.
