“Do not envy the oppressor And choose none of his ways; For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord, But His secret counsel is with the upright. The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just. Surely, He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble. The wise shall inherit glory, But shame shall be the legacy of fools.”
Memory Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall [a]direct your paths, Proverbs 3.5-6.
Look around you, who will you say are your closest friends? What qualities do they have, what attracts you? What about those you admire from a distance? What do these people have in common or are they completely opposite? What do you like about the different set of people?
Many times, we admire people for what seem like the most obvious reason; that which is visible to us. The evidence is in the result! Social media has a very huge influence not just on the youths but even fully fledged adults. You see the upcoming generation and grownups alike spending awful lot of time browsing the internet, binging on social media platforms and day by day eventually begin to aspire to become those they see online. Some really go the extra mile trying to replicate the lifestyles of their social media idols at all costs even if it meant committing a sin.
Some of those people we go the extra mile desiring to be like are oppressors, yet we spend our time, effort and finances trying to choose and live up another person’s way of life. People can oppress others and show themselves as messiahs to the world, and without really knowing anything about their lives, that which is not revealed to us, we think God is not on our side when things aren’t popping like it is for those media idols and through this, we are led astray. Most people eventually turn out worse than the people they try to model after.
Don’t get caught in this loop. Let God be your primary and only focus, else you are treading on a dangerous path. The people who oppress directly or indirectly are like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. The bible calls them an abomination to the Lord, awaiting shame and eventually disgrace. If you follow their ways, then there is a ripple effect of what happens to them.
Don’t get caught by what you see. Jesus was tempted by what He could see as the devil took Him to the highest mountain, but Christ knew that the reward for staying with God far exceeds the physical things He could see, Matthew 4:4-11.
Don’t get carried away by what you see else you could be sitting on a ticking time bomb.
