Focus on God!

“But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:”

Memory Verse: “But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:30.

Sometimes things happen that brings so much heaviness to our hearts. We as believers question God on why those things are happening and unbelievers doubt even more that God cannot be a good God if He allows those things to happen. It becomes overly complicated when people lose their focus and step back on their relationship with God because their minds cannot understand what and why so because of this lack on answer, their trust in God becomes void and their faith becomes even less than that of a mustard seed.

Whiles a single message from an individual may not be able to answer those multiple questions, a single word from God is able to answer not some but all of those thoughts that fills our minds. One of such is what we read in today’s bible verse John 16:5-6. We read of a time when Jesus was having a conversation with His disciples. They obviously were not concentrating; Jesus was telling them they will lose him but He was promising them the Holyspirt at the same time. They did not even focus on the holy spirit or the important role He was coming to play. All they were focused on was “How will we ever cope without Jesus”?  They had spent the last three years of their lives as His disciple, therefore they all dreaded living without Him. Jesus knew they were grieving so He said “None of you are even asking where He was going “ John 16:5.

The reality is, we mostly focus on that which is about to go wrong. We see the clouds go dark and we panic so much about the rain that’s about to start. We focus on all the terrible things that may happen when it rains forgetting that without rain there will be no flowers.

There would have never been the Holyspirt for us if Jesus had not left us, so Jesus had to go. Everything that God permits is for a reason but unless we focus on Him, we may not be able to understand and walk with Him into the next phase of our life.

I urge you today to keep looking unto Jesus. The wind is always going to be there, but it will only have a damaging impact when we look away from Jesus.
