When God heard the boy crying, the angel of God called out to Hagar from heaven and said, “Hagar, why are you worried? Don’t be afraid. I have heard your son crying. Help him up and hold his hand, because I will make him the father of a great nation.” Then God let her see a well. So she went to the well and filled the skin with water, then gave some to her son.
Memory Verse: If you do what the Lord wants, he will make certain each step you take is sure. Psalm 37:23.
What do you see when you look around you? Before I started studying my bible, the devil did a good job in convincing me that everything around me was always worse and in fact, I never saw anything good in everything all around me. Every time I was approached for anything, my excuses were worse than that of Moses and my first reaction is to look inwardly and see 100% reason why I was the wrong fit for any task, assignment, opportunity, name it. Moses told God, “I have never been a good speaker. I wasn’t one before you spoke to me, and I’m not one now. I am slow at speaking, and I can never think of what to say.” Exodus 4:10-12.
Ezekiel was a different version of Moses because just as Moses saw himself a bad speaker, Ezekiel saw only dry bone Ezekiel 37:2. I was a combination of them both, plus more. I was just like Hagar who was next to a well but was too focused on being worried. True she had ran out of water, but she was next to a well, yet she could not see the opportunity to refill because her default setting was that she only had an animal skin full of water and some bread.
Although this water skin was what Abraham had loaded Hagar and Ishmael with, it was never sufficient to last them a lifetime. So, Hagar had to learn a new skill – Looking around for opportunities! This I doubt that she had in her, seeing that she used to be just a slave.
Like Hagar, many of us don’t see because we have allowed ourselves to be limited by the devil to what we “think” we carry, yet the God who created us has created us for so much more, but we just can’t see it. The opportunities around us are unlimited but without the help of God, we will continue to see the problems and not the opportunities to use those problems as a steppingstone for the Glory of God.
Moses was a deliverer, Ezekiel could talk dry bones to leave, Hagar was almost going to let her son die while crying next to a well, what opportunities are you missing out on?
I have now changed my default setting by asking God “what is the opportunity in this mess” and every time He instructs me to take steps towards those opportunities. You can trust Him to showing you how to see opportunities too if you use your biggest asset – Your voice
