“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Memory verse: “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:14
Procrastination is one of the major problems we face as individuals. The Cambridge dictionary defines it as “to keep delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring. Statements like ‘I’ll do it later’ or maybe tomorrow and maybe even next tomorrow and so on keeps popping up and we use one task to delay various other things. We go on this cycle then we one day wake up to realise we have wasted a whole lot of time doing nothing. The perfect excuse we seem to give is that we are really too busy but in real sense, we have the wrong things in our priority list. Romans 8:5 tells us “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”
Once we start to lives this way, we procrastinate anything and everything including the things of God which is why various times as Christians we can spend time doing everything except spending time with God and doing His will. This often happens because fulfilling our heart desires seem more interesting. We are of the school of thought that we are working towards a goal that we have an understanding of.
A rhetorical question this morning is Do you have an understanding of what it means to have a relationship with God? Anyone who prioritizes the things of the world above the things of God has no real understanding because for those who are God’s own and are led by His spirit, will do all to evade procrastination. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:14.
Doing the work of the father is not an option, it’s something we “must” do and this can only be done whiles we have life. The things we do for God are the only things that have eternal rewards but for the rest, we only have earthly rewards. We can also have a win-win when we focus on doing the things of God because He said in His word that everything else will be added to us when we focus on seeking His kingdom and righteousness. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33.
The time is now! Take advantage of the life God has given you today and begin to seek him and focus on the things which are eternal.
There is no wrong in being focused on our day to day lives, the most important thing is for us not to forget to place the things of the kingdom and God at the center of it all. While at it, totally rid ourselves of procrastination both physically and spiritually as no one knows tomorrow and time waits for no one.
