Bible Text: Matthew 14:30-31 “But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”
Memory Verse: 2Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
The word threat itself is enough to bring shivers to anyone and it often does not signify the birth of something nice. Soon as an area or someone is deemed a threat, people already live in fear and do everything possible to avoid the area or person involved as they have the impression that they will definitely get hurt. An example is the Corona virus breakout which originated from China. I was listening to a radio station this morning and all listeners dialing in wanted to know was if it was safe to use the buses, the trains, trams or even public spaces. The outbreak poses itself as a threat and people are now fearful, working towards living a constrained life.
Today we see that the mind of humans naturally processes fear. It’s almost as if fear is hidden in a corner waiting to show itself at every opportunity and unfortunately people are often impacted adversely before they even know it. Peter had complete peace walking on water towards Jesus until he doubted because he was threatened by the wind and wave, immediately fear creeped in, he began to sink and had to reach out for Christ to help him stay afloat.
Most things in life that threatens our peace of mind and create fear have no actual power over our lives but once our mind doubts God, even for a second, the devil has uses that opportunity as a quick platform to act and if care is not taken, gains access and sits in deep into our lives manipulating our hearts and totally destroying our faith. Remember, God has not given us the spirit of fear, 2Timothy 1:7.
The story of Peter is very similar to that of Elisha and the king of Aram with his armies 2 Kings 6:8-23. Very clearly one of Elisha’s men saw the troops of armies sent by the king of Aram, he was threatened and it took Elisha’s prayer for God to open his eyes to see the horses and chariots lined up by God for His people before the young man could be at peace, 2Kings 6:17.
No matter how scary things might look, if you have God on your side then the devil and his demons cannot win by threatening your peace of mind. You always have the upper hand but do you trust God enough or are you intimidated by the noise on the other side?
The devil is never going to be a match for God and you are a child of God which means no matter how hard it may be, remain focused and you will not sink.
Prayers:
- Father, I thank you for a beautiful day
- Lord from today, help me to trust in you totally and live above fear and threat
- Father turn all my fears to confidence and let it be evident that I’m on the winning side
- Help me to fully acknowledge You for direction, live above fear of uncertainties and grant me the boldness to see beyond all impossibilities
- Forgive my iniquities Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
- Thank you Father and in Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.
