“Then Moses said to the Lord, “O Lord, you are the God who gives breath to all creatures. Please appoint a new man as leader for the community. Give them someone who will guide them wherever they go and will lead them into battle, so the community of the Lord will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
Memory Verse: Isaiah 30:21 “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.”.
Leadership is no Joke! Whiles some may be able to lead theoretically and give good analysis and recommendations on how they think a leader should be, reality surfaces when the practicality kicks in and their suggested ideology of leadership quickly becomes impracticable when they are faced with having to decide which direction to turn the boat in an overwhelming storm.
An individual without a leader is a likened to a sheep without a shepherd and such is said to be living a very risky life which is what Moses did not want for the Israelites. Moses had the opportunity of being a leader, chosen of God and led by God, hence he was not just a leader but a prophet who took instructions directly from God and others around Him.
His position didn’t put him in a situation of thinking, he always had life all figured out, hence when His father in-law Jethro who was also a Priest and believer of the word of God advised him on his leadership strategies, He applied a different methodology and made even more progress Exodus 18.
Moses knew what it meant to be a successful leader because of the experience he acquired and since he had devoted most of his adult life leading the people of Israel, he didn’t want their life to become a mess hence he prayed for a new leader, one who loves God. His prayers received a good response from God as the scripture according to Numbers 27:18 says “The Lord replied, “Take Joshua son of Nun, who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him”.
Moses was the leader of the Israelites and he interceded for the Israelites at that time but we now have Jesus who was here in person to show us how to be a successful leader. He was a good shepherd while on earth in flesh and he demonstrated that ways of successful leadership. But like Moses the parting gift he left the Israelites with was Joshua, while when Jesus parted the earth back to heaven to sit on God’s right hand, He sent us a comforter, the Holyspirit, John 14:16.
All Christians round the world including you and I with or without title are now able to take a position of leadership and be successful at it because we have the guidance of the Holyspirit. The Holyspirit is not a part time leader but specialises in guiding our every step, everyday; Isaiah 30:21.
There is no fixed strategies to being successful at leading. An approach that works for you may not work for another because your assignments differ in aims and objectives, hence why unlike Moses, Joshua was not a prophet. With Joshua’s leadership, He still needed a prophet to consult God Joshua 27:21.
Have you been failing in your position as a leader in any area of your life be it work, family, Christian faith and more? I urge to refresh today and begin to work with the Holyspirit. He will bring the right people with the heart of God your way to make sure you don’t fail your God given assignment.
The word of God is your guide and the spirit of God will never lead you down the wrong path.
