“So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. Then He taught, saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations’? But you have made it a ‘den of thieves.”
Memory verse: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” I Corinthians 6:19
Some things are more straightforward than others and we know for certain that though people may have different views of things but certain things remain pretty straightforward. Though we may have the ability to function at different places, we still have a place of primary assignment. The house has various rooms in which every room has its primary purpose, some of those rooms can be used as multipurpose, some really cannot as they have clear reasons why they were built. The kitchen and toilets are some of the rooms that really cannot be used for different purpose as it will seem too awkward to cook in the toilet or shower in the kitchen.
The bible tells us about someone who understood his primary assignment. Apostle Paul who is known mainly as the person responsible for writing most of the books of the new testament was called for a purpose and he might have functioned in various places but yet knew what he was called for and he said in 1Corinthians1:17 “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.”
Our body is the temple of God, created for a primary assignment but works multipurpose. The temple of God is a place which everyone understood was a special place both to God and the people of the land. King David who desired to build God’s temple received a special blessing not just for his son but for his generation. The bible tells us that though God did not permit the king to build Him a temple, the king irrespective was specially blessed by God. “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before, 2Samuel 7:12-16.
The primary purpose of the temple of God is to be a place of prayer and therefore if our body is then temple of God then everything about us should be to glorify God. We see Jesus did not take it likely with anyone who was doing anything contrary to that which the temple was designed for. He drove them away so every time we go contrary to what the Lord created us for, we withdraw ourselves from the presence of God. When David went contrary, He ran to God and said “Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me Psalm 51:11.
If you are still shopping around for where your prayer will be answered, then it’s time to start looking within. God went everywhere with the Israelites and if you know what you carry then you know that He lives in you and you are a place of prayer.
PRAYERS
- Father I am grateful for your love and grace
- Create in me a clean heart Lord and continually use me as a vessel unto honor
- Help me to remain in your presence, keep your temple clean and not deviate from the purpose for which you Lord have created me
- I am grateful for your kindness and for all you have done and are still doing for me
- Thank you for the grace to know you and the power of your resurrection
- Help me Lord to run the race till the end and not lose my crown.
- Forgive me Lord of all my iniquities, bless me abundantly and make me a blessing unto others, in Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
