A little Too Busy For God?

“As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Memory Verse: Matthew 6:19-20, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

Life has evolved so much it has a lot of varieties, alternatives and options for us to explore. In today’s world, it’s fast becoming a norm amongst a great number of supposed followers of Christ to have a busy status or schedule when God needs someone to send. In summary, “we have become unavailable”.

We are so engrossed in frivolous life tasks making it impossible to have time for other important things. Some of the goodness of life includes microwaves, Wi-Fi, mobile phones, social media and lots of new technology. I mean long gone are the days when letters were written, visits made to the post office to purchase stamp or drop off a postcard, a distance which is like an hour away from home. Gone are the days of having one land phone per street where everyone had to take turns to receive a phone call, gone are the days where we must go into the bank for every single transaction.

Life has evolved so much, everything is now at our beck and call compared to the past and despite all these which is meant to make our lives easier, we have ironically become busier. So, I seriously question why are we still too busy despite all the advanced technologies we have and most importantly, why are we too busy for God?

The best way I could answer this question from my perspective is that we have become too anxious about the things of world over spiritual things. We now conveniently work contrary to the word of God according to Philippians 4:6-7. We seem to have misplaced priorities; and now live our lives as if every day we wake up is a right not privilege.

The need to live our lives with Jesus at the centre of it is no longer classed as a big deal. No wonder although human beings have in possession literally everything needed to be happy, yet there is this experience of emptiness which is unexplainable.

As the saying goes, life without Christ is crises. Some of us have become like Martha, Mary and Lazarus’ sister. we rush around doing things which will think are important and leaving the most important behind. That’s why Jesus said Luke 10:42 that one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen the best part; one that will not be taken away from her. We seem quick to forget that which we have been created to do. Despite all busyness in the work of the ministry, Jesus had to find a place to focus and rest because people were always coming to Him Mark 6:31. During the time, He communed and prayed to God the Father.

Life will always be busy and that is a known fact, we are always going to have a busy schedule list but we need to be careful not to conform to the things of the world according to Romans 12:2.

We are children of God and our lives are to be shaped and structured by God. Our day to day is to be directed by God. We must be intentional about our fellowship, and never forget that we were created by God in His image to worship Him.

I encourage you to be intentional about your day to day walk with the Lord, you cannot be too busy for God. Determine to be like Mary, don’t get caught up chasing the wind, don’t forget you are to build your treasure in heaven and no one builds treasure in heaven by constantly chasing the things of the world.

You build heavenly treasures by focusing heavenly things. I can only pray with you today that God will not be too busy for you In Jesus Name.

Prayer Points:
