While You Are Sleeping!

While You Are Sleeping!

Friday 10.01.2020

Bible Text: Genesis 2:21-23  “Then the LORD God made the man fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, he took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the flesh. He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him. Then the man said, “At last, here is one of my own kind Bone taken from my bone, and flesh from my flesh. ‘Woman’ is her name because she was taken out of man.”

Memory Verse: Psalms 127:2 “It is useless to work so hard for a living, getting up early and going to bed late. For the LORD provides for those he loves, while they are asleep.”

Sleep is one of the most important and eventful part of human existence simply because it’s the time our physical body repairs and renew itself. Scientifically, some cells in our body only gets repaired while sleeping and this is why after a long time of fatigue and the body not getting enough rest, medically some cells in the body starts malfunctioning, affecting the physical wellbeing of the individual and likely give rise to physical breakdown.

There are really three aspects of sleep that intrigues me. While medically Under-Sleeping may cause illness, oversleeping can also r cause poverty Proverbs 24:33-34.  Most importantly, destinies are also being changed while sleeping. A lot of the life changing event initiates when we are sleeping and this is why during our sleep, we are in another realm which we physically have no control over.

God our father was the first to change a man’s destiny after His creation and while it may not have been easy to tell Adam to lie down while He operates on him, God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep and during this sleep, God changed destiny by taking a rib out of him and creating a woman out of it, Genesis 2-21.

Just like Adam, when Jesus was going to be born, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph while He was sleeping according to Matthew 1:20-21. The most Interesting point from that passage was that Joseph had intentions unknown to Mary but just at that time, God sent Him a message while he was sleeping.

Likewise, King Solomon’s life also took a turn while He was sleeping. Physically Solomon had made an impressive sacrifice to the Lord and that night the Lord appeared to Him while He was sleeping and gave Solomon His heat desire and more. Read 1 Kings 3:1-15 for good understanding.

Because it’s impossible to see God and His Angeles with our physics eyes, often the Lord uses our sleeping time to communicate with us and positively impact our lives and destinies. This is a strategy well known to the devil and his agents too and they likewise choose sleeping time to plant thorns and negatively impact the lives of men, Matthew 13:2-30.

Your sleep world is most times driven by your physical world. Remember for most of the people God appeared to or sent angels to deliver messages to, the exchange or appearance occurred while they were sleeping. Although the recipients were asleep, they already made a move or had a plan in the physical.

While it’s important to sleep for health reasons and also hear from God, it is equally important to sleep with God in mind. You cannot just leave yourself vulnerable and fall asleep and into a spiritually dead state whenever you do. Sleeping physically and spiritually leaves you as a fertile land for the enemy to easily and freely attack. You can be physically asleep, but in the same mode not sleep the sleep of death but spiritually alive and active. God is spirit hence he doesn’t sleep and those who worship and are in sync with him remains spiritually active. In the same way, we need to train our spirit man not to alert always even when the flesh is weak.

When you sleep, commit your sleep time into the hands of God so you are covered from every spiritual attack from the enemy. Remeber the scripture reminds us that when men slept, that was when the enemy visited, sowed evil and went about their way. We cannot allow or create an avenue for the enemy to exploit us. We cannot afford it this year hence we all must work earnestly towards syncing up with God spiritually.

Your night devotion is as important as your morning ones, depending on the time you go to sleep based on your nature of work or schedule. It’s only Gods word that can bring you shelter, comfort and provision while you are sleeping. Get closer, knitted and be spiritually alive.
