Speaking Through The Spirit

Speaking through the spirit!

Thursday, January 30, 2020

Bible Text: Matthew 10:20  “For the words you will speak will not be yours; they will come from the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Read Matthew 10:16-20.

Memory Verse: James 1:26 “Do any of you think you are religious? If you do not control your tongue, your religion is worthless and you deceive yourselves”

Words are so dominant and what comes out of our mouths can be very strong and often drive a reaction out of people. I’ve come across people who do not control what proceeds from their mouth; they speak anyhow and their excuses are usually “I didn’t mean what I said, I didn’t mean it to come out that way.” But really, those dropped words can most times not be taken back, they would have ended up aggravating others or even result in lost opportunities. Not bothering to think before speaking results in a whole lot of damage. In reality, “can a defense lawyer go to court without preparing case files or can an individual attend a job interview unprepared, unseasoned and with lack of composure with their speech?

Our words are very powerful and though the mouth speaks what the mind processes, it is important to be seasoned in our hearts. It is possible to process unseasoned thoughts but when those thoughts are not spoken out, no one gets impacted, Proverb 15:28. Today we see Jesus sending His disciples out on a mission, the intention here is that they continue what Jesus had started; greater works, Matthew 10:1. They had a few warnings and one of them was that while they are told to prepare for prosecution, they are not to speak loosely in such a way that will give their enemies a foot to stand on.

Many times in life, we come across Christians who have little or no control over the words they speak and this ought not to be so. As God’s children, He speaks to us through His spirit and if we are walking with God, the spirit of God will speak through us. Studying and abiding by the word of God encourages our walk with Him and His words are full of Spirit and life. When our dwelling is on the word, our hearts will be full of the fruits of the spirit and our words will be seasoned with grace, Colossians 4:6.

As a believer, it’s important to know that we are disciples sent out to the world to further the assignment that Jesus started and in our human self, it is impossible to accomplish those things without the help of the trinity. Have you ever spoken to someone who later tells you your words touched and changed their life? That’s the spirit of God helping you to say the right thing at the right time to someone in need.

Take a stand from today, committing your words to the Lord always and asking for a seasoned heart. It’s important to allow the spirit of God speak through you as only then will your words be right, seasoned and life changing just when it is needed.

PRAYERS:

  • Father I thank You your words which gives life and understanding to the simple
  • I receive the fruit of the spirit and the ability to put it to use through out this year 2020
  • Help me to speak through the spirit and be seasoned in everything that proceeds out of my mouth in Jesus name
  • Forgive my iniquities Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
  • Thank you Father and in Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.
