Called to Intercede!

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Memory Verse:  When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before! Job 42:10

Everything about a Christianity really points in the direction of togetherness, intervention, fellowship, support, community, giving, forgiveness and above all love.

All this generally educates us that God did not create us to function on our own and no man is an island. When God created Adam according to Genesis 2:18, the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”. This again shows us that from the very beginning God knew no human being will function in full capacity alone.

Interceding is acting on behalf of someone and when we mediate in prayers we are standing in the gap for another before God. We are so fortunate that since creation, God has always put us in a position where we are not alone and when Jesus was going to leave the earth, He promised to ask the Father to send us an Advocate [the Holyspirit] who will never leave us and while in Heaven, Jesus promised to continue to help our weaknesses, groan for us, plead for us for we cannot do it alone by ourselves.

As a Christian, we are called to pray for our family members, Colleagues, neighbors, leaders, cities, churches, nations and the rest alike, Isaiah 62:6-7, O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord. A lot of men and women in the bible stood in the gap for their cities and other like Abraham stood in the gap for Sodom and Gomorrah, the church of God prayed for Peter when Herod arrested him, Moses repeatedly interceded for the Israelites.

Our lives shouldn’t be about living for ourselves only, there is reward for everything we do including interceding on behalf of others. The bible clearly states in Proverbs 11:24-26 ” Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need.

Praying for yourself alone is also stingy, I encourage you today to practice the act of intersession. Just as the holy spirit is interceding for us, we should be interceding for others. Why not try today, include others in your prayer requests, prayer list and continue praying for others daily.

PRAYERS:

  • Father I thank you for your gift of life and for another great week
  • Thank you for you are my only source and the one who is able to do all things
  • Help me from today to pray without ceasing and include others in my daily prayers
  • Make me an intercessor and let me not be selfish in my supplications to you
  • Forgive me of all my shortcomings O Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
  • Thank you Lord for answers to prayers, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
