The New Covenant!

Memory Verse: Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. Hebrews 7:18

There is something about buying new things that gives one a great feeling and though I still don’t understand how they both relate, what we see in today’s world is that many people go out and decide to make purchases not actually needed but wanted just because the feeling of having a new thing gives them a new type of comfort. It just looks great compared to if you saw exactly the same thing preowned, the personal value you place on at item you purchased new is just always more therefore new is good, new is beautiful but once something new has been used, it loses value gradually and the circle of purchase for comfort continues.

This was the case with redemption from sin before Jesus came. At the time people were required to sacrifice animals according to Leviticus 4, the Lord gave Moses an instruction for the people to sacrifice a bull with no defect at the Lord’s tabernacle and this was to be repeated every single time a sin was committed. The offering was only as new as the sin. The value placed on the sacrifice was temporary and was only capable of holding up until the next sin is committed, then the cycle is done all over again. This was the covenant between God and His people at the time but things were just about to change.  

This covenant between God and His people was in place even after Christ was born. When Mary birthed Jesus, together with his father they offered a sacrifice when the day of purification came according to the law of Moses Luke 2:22-24. They carried this out as an act of obedience. 

The word of God is everlasting and Jesus confirmed this when He taught about the law in Matthew 5:15-19. The word of God had to be fulfilled for a new covenant to be in place else we would still have had to do just what the people of old did physically. Jesus came and payed the one-time sacrifice with His blood. He went through all the pains, suffering, insult and crucifixion to completely fulfil the covenant between God and His people. 

By the death of Jesus, we became free from the old Law and are now graced with a new covenant in which Jesus is our mediator. The blood of Jesus was the one-time sacrifice needed to give us the ability of a new start in the sight of God else we would have still been in that cycle, Hebrew 9:22. Jesus was the lamb that was slain for every human for the forgiveness of sins and activation of a new law. 

The new covenant is active in our lives as a children of God today. We live in the privilege of having Christ as our mediator. His blood paved the way, sustains our journey to heaven and gives us the right standing with God. Jesus activated the new covenant through His blood which feeds us and binds us to the family of Christ; meaning we become Children of God. 

Without the new covenant, it is simply not possible to be called Children of God because there is no cordial relationship. The people were still not only under the old law but also bounded to the blood line of Adam inheriting the curses placed on Adam when He sinned.

Accepting Jesus into your life activates a new covenant in which you are now bound by the blood of Jesus to God. It’s like one big family where everything is constantly new. 

The old covenant was based on the blood of animals; the new convent is based on the blood of Jesus His son. Under this new covenant, you are a child of God.

PRAYERS:

• Father I thank you for the power in your blood which has redeemed me and made me a bonafide Child of God.
• I receive the grace to remain in your presence, your secret place and in your camp
• I receive the grace not to depart from your presence but to remain a good ambassador
• Help me Lord to live a life holy, acceptable and adhering to your doctrines.
• Forgive me of all my shortcomings O Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
• Thank you Lord for answers to prayers, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
