Reserved Honour!

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to the priests: “A son honors his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honor and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name! “But you ask, ‘How have we ever shown contempt for your name?’ “You have shown contempt by offering defiled sacrifices on my altar. “Then you ask, ‘How have we defiled the sacrifices? “You defile them by saying the altar of the Lord deserves no respect. When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn’t that wrong? And isn’t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased? Try giving gifts like that to your governor, and see how pleased he is!” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

Memory Verse: Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. John 12:26

Do you wake up each day feeling appreciative to God or has waking up become a norm in your life? Like you literally wake up and just resume the day’s activities without taking time out for gratitude even if it’s just the word “Thank you Jesus for I am alive”? If you are one who just wakes up without gratitude in your heart or know an individual like that, can you really say they honour God?

The word honour is used to categorize someone we greatly respect. The respect we have as human is evident in how we deal with those people we hold in a position of esteem and as such, we see a visual example where reverence is placed on people who are called special guests of honour at a party or event. There is a reserved seat for those individuals on a high table and this people are not taken very lightly.

They get called specially out of the crowd usually with a brief introduction, they get a special seat, they get selective people attending to them. They are served VIP treatment throughout that event and easily recognised as guests of honor by every attendee of that event.

We are all guest in the events of this world and most importantly God has given us a good option here to either remain in the crowd of the world which currently sits at an estimated population of 7.8 billion. Everyone is a guest but then there is an opportunity to make it to the VIP and that’s if you believe in the name Jesus and live according to His commands.

People don’t just make it to the seat of honour doing nothing, most often they have played a particular role in the life of the host and a good question is why should God honour you as His special guest if you are not one who appreciates, believes or honor God?

The honour we have for God should practically be our highest priority in life. Usually we hear people say God first, Family and every other thing follow but have you noticed that despite this saying, what we mostly see is everything working on the reverse? People put their own interest first, family, then find the last place is for God to fit in, and such people go on questioning why is an individual being treated differently from another?

God is extremely compassionate that He gave us a guide (The bible) full of life lessons and one of such is understanding what makes Him respond and what moves Him. Honour cannot be taken lightly when it comes to God. You cannot position Him anywhere less than position 1 in your life else you stand a chance of being dispositioned too. The book of Exodus 20:2-4 makes it very clear that God is not ready to tolerate you placing anything in life above Him.

You only have the opportunity to be called a special guest if you follow Jesus. Yes, there are certain positions that your money, effort and anything else you have will never buy you and that is your seat on the high table of God. Following Jesus is honoring Him “But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me”. 1Samuel 2:30b

The name Jesus is a big deal. There is no chance of being Honored in heaven without Jesus and God is so merciful that He has given us access to that list for Free. One you have accepted Jesus into your life, you can begin building a relationship with the father who by the level of Honour you have for Him will put you on the VIP list.

God does not lie Numbers 23:19 so we know that if He says a thing, He makes it happen therefore it’s not a question of maybe or maybe not, it’s definitely a place in the list if your life honor’s Him in every way.

If the Lord is truly your father, how have you been honoring Him?

PRAYERS:

  • Father I thank you for a beautiful day and for your mercies the endures
  • I am sorry for the ways I have not honored you and how I don’t appreciate you enough
  • Help me from today to honor you consistently, live for you and celebrate you
  • Forgive me of all my shortcomings O Lord and let your mercy prevail over judgement
  • Thank you Lord for answers to prayers, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
