Already defeated!

Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! If he kills me, then we will be your slaves. But if I kill him, you will be our slaves!  I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!”  When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.

Memory Verse: Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. Deuteronomy 31:8a

Have you ever taken time out to examine how success or failure is derived? Often what most people assume to be luck from the outside is usually a combination of a lot of hardwork and preparations but most of those preparations don’t ever get noticed until the big breakthrough comes and the whole world see it. At that point, people say all sort of things and some simply say its luck. For some people, there is this inferiority complex felt when looking at other people’s attainment, it’s visualized as so massive, they already see themselves as never being able to achieve those set heights because they think they don’t have what it takes to come that close.

The life of little David is worth reflecting upon and more importantly is the state in which the Israelites were before David came into the picture. The enemy had already mouthed and practically the Israelites were already defeated in their minds and the more they listened to the voice of the enemy, their level of fear increased and even king Saul was not left out of the picture. The king and his people concentrated so much on the voice of the enemy that God’s voice was mute to them. Even though God was speaking, the treat from the enemy was then the point of attention and therefore everyday they replayed those threats and were unable to focus on what truly matters but they continued discussing Goliath until David overheard them in a very random conversation and enquired more 1Samuel 17:25

The people of Israel had looked at Goliath’s height and size, they had listened to his word amongst other thing and they were already defeated. By a matter of physicality and history of victories under Goliath’s belt, it was a done deal. Most of us are like the people of Israel, we look on the other side of what people are doing, judge the book by its cover and immediately limit ourselves to how far we can go and at such we automatically approach everyday of our lives defeated and limited.

It’s not unusual to look at the other side and try study what’s truly happening in order to be prepared for the journey ahead but the mindset of how we approach things really matters. If David had not been sent by God, I can only imagine that Goliath will have won yet another easy battle because even the people of Israel lost the battle before it began when they introduced fear.

Wake up from the imagination of thinking other people are lucky and better than you. Remember always that you are a child of God and you have access to the most resources that no unbeliever has access to. David knew this and when he approached Goliath on the battle field, he went in the name of the Lord and that’s why when Goliath threatened David on the battle field, it was easy for David to respond  to the Philistine saying , “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” 1Samuel 17:45

Don’t approach life thinking of everything as impossible, the word of God is clear on the assurance given by Jesus Himself that “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” Matthew 19:26. The word of God is loaded with unlimited assurances and reassurance that we need to live our everyday life on the high, so silence the voice of the enemy in your head and focus on the word of God.

Don’t place yourself at a disadvantage or give the enemy an opportunity to mess with your mindset. Start the day right, commence each day with the word of God in your heart and you will have good success in everything you do Joshua 1:8..

Every time you start your day without God, you are facing a battle defeated but each time you approach the world in the name of the Lord of the Heaven’s armies, you are facing an already won battle because God always goes ahead if you let Him.

You don’t need to be lucky, you just need to be favored by God and all things will work together maybe not the way you had planned it but they will work together for your own good.
