Why Do The Wicked Get Away With Everything?

“For both prophet and priest are profane; Yes, in My house I have found their wickedness,” says the Lord. “Therefore their way shall be to them Like slippery ways; In the darkness they shall be driven on And fall in them; For I will bring disaster on them, The year of their punishment,” says the Lord.

Memory Verse: Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered. Proverb 11:21

Some things should be pretty straightforward, right? Do good and get rewarded for the good which you have done, do evil and be punished and so many others. We continually hear of people who consistently and consciously do things contrary God’s teachings yet, it seems like God is doing nothing about their actions and ignorance to his teachings and commandments.

We find ourselves questioning if it’s worth even being on the good side since it may appear that evil doers get away with it but this is never the case. As with everything in life, there is time for all things. God is a master planner and contrary to what we think or imagine, He strategically appoints a time for punishment for evil deeds so it’s impossible to take advantage of God’s love. Without doubt, mercy does come into perspective, but that is still based on his jurisdiction.

During the time of Noah, the bible teaches us about a time when men increased on the face of the earth but with all that increase came with a lot of atrocities and this made God very unhappy. Not only were men living in sin, but they had become wicked in their though and ways. Genesis 6:5-6 says: Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

The result of their continued wickedness was destruction but this was not something that God did immediately. He already made the decision to destroy men but because Noah was an upright man before God, He made a decision to protect Noah. So time was needed for the boat to be built before the destruction by the flood.

Usually we can begin to imagine, God should have just destroyed the wicked anyway but that would have meant even the righteous who were then living amongst them (Noah) would have been a part of this destruction. Although God gives time for repentance because we know according to His word that he has no pleasure in the death of sinners Ezekiel 18:23 but when people continue to act in continued wickedness then they will not go unpunished.

There is a fixed punishment time for wickedness and because the word of God says so, we can be assured that no wicked will go unpunished. He says in Isaiah 13:11 “I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud, And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible”.
