The Enemy Is Updated!

“Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel. So Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time. Then he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor at Pethor, which is near the River in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying: “Look, a people has come from Egypt. See, they cover the face of the earth, and are settling next to me! Therefore, please come at once, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”

Memory verse: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105

Let me take you through my iPhone 11 journey, a device which I use because it serves purpose. I see no reason to change it to something more recent because who needs a new device when Apple will notify me of new updates and enable me update my phone to latest software?

While it’s all singing and dancing with my current phone, as time passes, my phone is likely to start developing minor faults due to wear and tear coupled with the expected life span of the components used in building it. My phone may then become groggy, slowdown in performance and Apple most likely will release software updates not compatible with my device, eventually my phone will become outdated and loose Apple support due to versioning. At this point, I can’t just walk into an Apple store demanding a fix, I’m most likely to be told to buy a new phone if I desire recent updates or fix the broken device with a third party at my own risk.

Many of us are like the iPhone device. We give our lives to Christ and while still a new fresh convert, we do everything not limited to praying without ceasing, fast, study the word, help in our environment and more, all which we do intentionally in an aim to fulfil what Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 “Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

While we have made a beautiful decision surrendering all to God, that decision and what we did at that time is only a foundation to the beginning of what should become the new normal way of life for us. We miss it when we assume that being a Christian is a seasonal thing, for example Sundays and Wednesday bible study bubbles only. Even at times, we assume what we did years ago still gives us the privileges relevant for today’s word. The word of God renews in every instance, fresh rhema, fresh instruction and direction.

The enemy isn’t sleeping. The devil, the ruler of this world is restless and constantly roaming the earth which gives him an updated information about what’s happening in our lives. While we may just be minding our businesses, the devil’s business is to keep snooping on the children of God and in order to be in our business, he needs an up to date information.

This is what Balak had, even while the Israelites were minding their own business, the people of Moab were already afraid because they had an updated information about Israel’s victory so their King began to plan the next attack immediately.

If we fail to stay connected to God, we cannot know what His spirit is saying about the present time. We are therefore running at risk of falling prey to enemy.

Don’t be an outdated Christian, Don’t allow the enemy be an inch ahead of you, Stay connected of God and remain updated. The word of God is the only lamp and connect to get constant updates from God’s throne.
